First of all, some life developments. Remember how I said I was moving to Amsterdam? Yeah well, that isn't happening any more. In fact, I now don't even have a job - I'm currently a man of leisure! How it all happened is a long story but I'm appreciating the break from working life which was probably what I needed. What it all means is that major travelling plans are afoot. What exactly they are, I will keep to myself for now until they are more concrete - one thing for certain is that they are not likely to take place until the middle of next year while I wait for my British citizenship to be granted. I've waited six years for it so I am not about to give it up now. Whether I was ... read more

On our third day in Ireland we went to Galway where we stayed in a hotel with was really nice. We had supper in the pub that was in the hotel. I had roast turkey and ham with stuffing, mash potatoes and gravy. Dad and I had an in depth conversation on friction in space, it got quite funny with the movements we were acting out. After dinner and our conversation we went to bed. In the morning we were told that it's double the price to stay in the same room one more night because it will be the weekend. So we found a B'nB to go to instead (Oranhill) and we were glad we did! It was really nice place to stay, the beds were soft and the people were great! Mike and Ann ... read more

It was yet another early start to make our way to the Aran Islands. I was very excited for this excursion because anyone whom I've spoken to about them, had nothing my amazing things to say. We took a bus 45 minutes to the ferry. It was pouring and I was getting nervous that the day would be a wash out. By the time we got on the ferry, the sun was shining and then skies were blue. I prayed that it would last. The ferry to the Aran Islands is about a 30-40 minutes. The views from the ferry are fantastic. The ferry rocked a bit too much for my liking, but it was fine. Once we got to the island, I picked up my bike rental from the bike hire. It looked like a ... read more

After being woken up by the fire alarm in the hotel at 6 am, we had breakfast and began our journey to Galway. I do enjoy a good Irish breakfast, however by the eighth day in a row I'm over it. Haha, I am sure after a few days of toast and cereal I'll be ready to enjoy it again. There are a few differences between American life and British/Irish (or quite possibly any other country) life. Hotels do not have air conditioning; last night the temperature was quite warm, so it was a bit uncomfortable. I have no idea what the temperature was because I can't convert the Celsius into Fahrenheit. Math is not my best skill and converting euros and the British pound is enough math for me. There is no fat free milk, ... read more

I come from a rainy country, where we for the large part survive the rainy days with stories of how it rains even more on the British Isles. You might imagine my surprise when I arrived in Galway and Connemara - the wettest place in Ireland - and found it warm, sunny and with a clear blue sky. However, it didn't take me long to realise that the local population was just as surprised with the clear blue sky. Quite a few have commented on my luck in coming to Galway, at a time when the weather is so amazing and far from the rainy grey that normally clouds Connemara and the Burren. There have been two reasons for my visit to Galway. Firstly, it has been my dream to explore Western Ireland for some years ... read more

We had another early start for sight-seeing today. We went to see some Abbeys, Castles and the city of Galeway. The main issue is getting anywhere. Judy tells Kirsten what she wants to see and then Kirsten has to try and figure out how to get there and if we have the time to fit everything in. It gets interesting. First stop was Quinn Abbey, a century or two old Abbey with a cemetery inside and outside the Abbey. We toured the grounds and it had very scenic surroundings. Judy was climbing all over and into it. There was no one there to tell you couldn’t so she did. Including hopping a fence. After the Abby we were on our way to Galway. While driving we saw a castle or abbey and decide to stop and ... read more

Hi again! Today was a fun day! We had a lecture on abortion this morning and it was very interesting. Ireland is very strict when it comes to abortions. It is illegal to have an abortion unless the mother's life is in danger medically or she is at risk off suicide. This bill was just past. There has been a lot of controversy when it comes to abortion. Many women go to the UK to have an abortion if they want to have one. One of the main cases dealing with abortion in Ireland was the X case. This case involved a 14 year old girl who was raped and her parents took her to England for an abortion. The Irish government stopped her and brought her family back before anything happened. They were put under ... read more

Hello! Today was a relaxing day for us. I have been experiencing pain in my lower back and hip when we walk (which is everywhere we go). So, this morning I got to experience a doctor's office in Ireland. It is very different than the states. The doctor called me back and came in right behind me. He checked out the movement in my legs and asked me questions. I said yes sir and he said that he is not used to being called sir. He said it was nice. After the doctor I got my medicine and went back to the dorm. I ate lunch and got ready for a lecture. The lecture was ok. The guy was really nice. Then we walked back to the dorms in the rain. That was fun! We were ... read more
