Days 4-5 Athens

 Europe » Greece » Attica » Athens
Welcome back! heh... thanks for reading. So tonight is my last night in Athens, this evening I am going to meet up with my contiki trip and tomorrow we head off to Mykonos. It's still boiling here, which isn't terribly shocking. If anyone is ever in Athens, I fully recommend the Athens Backpackers hostel, it's about a 3 minute walk to the acropolis, clean bright rooms, a bumpin roof-top bar that has a fantastic view. The staff has all been really nice and helpful, and the location can't be beat. Yesterday I decided to take a stroll around the area, and [View Full Entry]

Athens

 Europe » Greece
Tiffany and I finally made it here after way too many hours on the plane! It is beautiful and soooo hot! We spent the day shopping and checking out the main area of Athens. We had such an amazing authentic Greek lunch! We are headed out on the ship tomorrow and going out on the town tonight! We decided that we are glad that we do not understand the language here because we DO NOT WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE GREEK MEN SAY TO US AS WALK BY! We also decided British men are polite! I Kid you not, we walked [View Full Entry]

Off the beaten path
Off the beaten path
Here is a random beach we found while driving the 4 wheeler . . . we had to climb and hike to get here but the water felt good when we got there.
After a few days on the island we think we may have mastered the art of relaxation! This is such a unique place we are absolutely loving it here!! We arrived Sunday early morning after a 26 minute puddle jumper flight over here from Athens. Yesterday we hit up the beach and just swam and layed in beach chairs overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. As if laying on a beach isn't relaxing enough, here in Santorini they have BEDS and COUCHES with huge fluffy pillows right on the beach! It's a dream come true!! Our hotel is right on the Sea and [View Full Entry]

Today has been an interesting day. We checked out this morning at the Coast Guard station, Randi Jo and I went with because we hadn’t seen that side of the harbor yet. Then the craziness began. I will try and give the short version. When we got back to the boat, Lois said we should wait a little while because the winds were too strong. We waited, and actually thought we were going to have to wait until the next morning because the wind was so bad. However, the craziness got even crazier. We all took a nap in the afternoon, [View Full Entry]

Santorini

Europe » Greece » South Aegean » Santorini
Got a dune buggy today with Mom and drove all over the island. Went to Perissa Beach and the Red Beach then back towards the hotel to Kamari Beach. Just driving around mostly then went up to the mountain town of Pyrgos and checked out the crazy maze of streets and got lunch. Split a pizza and each had a drink. Can't believe I have never been up there. Maybe my favorite place on the island. Took a little nap this afternoon and then the whole crew drove to the other end of the island to Oia and watched the sunset [View Full Entry]

I'm typing this in the HI hostel in Athens. It's a free internet cafe but being in a HI hostel it's very busy, there's not a queue again yet but I'm sure there will be! Since I last updated... ...we went to Lubeck, in which we climbed St. Peter's cathedral (well actually it was a lift) and looked out, I caught up with some family history by walking down the street that my German nan, Ingeborg, lived on as a child and during the Second World War (where she met my grandad), we drank marzipan hot chocolate in the world famous [View Full Entry]

So, thunderstorms in Germany? It's to be expected, right? It's not a country renouned for being hot and dry. So fair enough. But thunderstorms in Italy? That's starting to take the micky. We were in Periugia, as a base to explore Umbria. I'll get to why we were in Umbria specifically in a moment. Perugia is a pretty little town, but without an enormous amount to actually do unless you get their for one of their festivals (Jazz festival, Chocolate festival, and so on). What it does have going for it is it's metro, which is a sort of ariel-tram system, [View Full Entry]

Inside day

 Europe » Greece » Pelopennese » Nafplion
I was inside for the most I've been since in Greece We haven't even had a meal inside yet It's all outside but today I had a grumbling tummy from the antibiotics (which also make my mouth taste bad long after I've taken them) and a greasy omlette Em was also not feeling good so we giggled at Greek t.v. we watched Alias Monk in English and a version of cash cab a game show where you answer questions in a taxi as they take you to your destination it was a Greek version and a lot more intense the inside [View Full Entry]

Start of Greece

Europe » Greece » South Aegean » Ios
OK, 3 day in Ios now. Things are going well. This is the portion of my trip with about 30 Green Hope HS seniors. Brought Mom too. On the way, Mom and I and 7 others got bumped and got a free ticket to anywhere USAir flies, so I am thinking about maybe Brazl sometime. Always wanted to do that. We got in the 1st night about 12-13 hours later than we were supposed to, so just had to catch up with everyone else and try to get some rest. Ios is always fun. No place crazier in the world--at least [View Full Entry]

Days 1-3 Athens

 Europe » Greece » Attica » Athens
I've never done this travel blog thing before, but i hope you enjoy it. Athens is hot. Really hot. My flight was uneventful, Ottawa to London wasn't anywhere near as bad as that Tel-Aviv flight I've done a few times. I had about 10 hours in London, but I had to switch airports, so I didn't mind that it was such a long time. I just took the airport shuttle from Heathrow to Gatwick, and then chilled and had a coffee until I could check in. Easy Jet doesn't have pre-assigned seating, so it's kind of first come first serve, and [View Full Entry]
