Hooray for Görliwood. Walking through the streets of Görlitz is truly like walking on a film set, and that's because it has been a film set on many occasions! You can pay for a tour, or just wander around like we did. There is a website to help you plan a little: Görliwood. Of all the films that have been made there, we have seen one or two. The Grand Hotel Budapest is the one that stands out but not because we particularly liked the film - we didn't! The department store where it was filmed is closed to the public but peering through the doors and windows you can just about make out the art deco interior. It's a shame as I'm sure we would even have paid a Euro or two to go inside. ... read more

Kävin ensin Sleesian museossa. Sitten otin 3 euron päivälipun joukkoliikenteeseen. Ajelin kumpaakin ratikkalinjaa ja yhtä bussilinjaa. Näki siinä sitten historiallisen keskustan lisäksi myös sosialismin aikana rakennettuja taloja. Päivälliseksi nautin sleesialaista ruokaa: sikaa, luumuja, aprikooseja, perunamuussia, papuja, hapankaalia. Puolan puolella poikkesin vasta loppuillasta.

A little late, but it's been a transition being back home. Our last trip we took was to Goerlitz, the border town where 1/3 of the town is actually in Poland, and Bautzen, where there was cool stuff including a mustard store with free samples! Goerlitz was actually really beautiful. The buildings were lovely and it was a quiet, non-hectic place, and I really liked being there. We went to this amazing Medieval shop where the storekeep sold hand-crafted jewelry and had a huge variety of old Celtic music. I ended up getting this really beautiful necklace that's actually a sun-dial! So cool~ he was amazingly nice, and I totally wanted to buy everything. Then we went to an old beautiful church with this famous organ called the Sun Organ, designed by a German who went ... read more
