Today we drove out to the Japanese Gardens in Kaiserslautern with Matt and Maria. The Gardens looked quite impressive on their website, especially with the waterfall, Zen Gardens, lovely trees and pretty Tea House. It was, though, smaller than I had expected. It was certainly quite peaceful in some of the quaint corners, or when shrouded by trees and bushes, but we were plagued by almost constant views of the surrounding city. The Gardens were built on a hill and so most of the scenery that included a downhill view was framed with the buildings of Kaiserslautern. Even up the hill were many homes built right up to the fencing. It was a neat experience, but I would have enjoyed it more had more of the trees been alive (I mistakenly assumed it was already spring) ... read more

I do have to report that Gabe reminded me I almost burnt down his house! I forgot to plug my CHI (very expensive) flat iron into the converter before plugging it in....AND IT MELTED. oooh the smell. Melted plastic on ceramic in a bathroom. YIKES! I did bad. very, very bad.... :( anyway...yea.... read more

I just bought two cuckoo clocks! Ever since I got here I thought it would be cool to get one because they're so neat and distinctly German. So, today Angie took me to a cuckoo clock outlet in Kaiserslautern (called House of Clocks Gifts and Collectables--www.houseofclocks.com) and we looked at the clocks. While looking at the clocks, I learned a lot about them. The store we were at had 3 types. The two more traditional types with all the gears in side that need winding every once in a while are called one day and eight day movement clocks. They sound the best and they have the traditional "tick-tock" sound to them. The one day movement ones have to be wound every day, and the eight day movements only have to be wound once a week. ... read more

Hello all. Ok--to set matters straight to anyone wondering, Angie's paperwork to get out of the army is INCREDIBLY messed up right now. It's not affecting the trip like we thought it would (luckily they are not trying to make her leave the country now) but it's still messed up. Now, she's in a position called "stoploss" where her company is not allowed to go anywhere because they might get deployed. Even though she's techincally supposed to be out now, her name somehow got on the roster for the stoploss, so it's messed up her paperwork. Just to get her out of the stoploss now will take 2-3 weeks because she's going National Guard, so they can't keep her. In the meantime, until we can both get some special type of pass Monday morning, her ... read more

I'm not good with keep up to date. it's almost been a year and I've been to seven countries and had half the entries. yikes i know. and i've recently quit using captain letters ... about 5 seconds ago. happy to say that i will be heading to Greece in 2 months! i can be random and i tend to rant. i'm a dreamer. most recently, and the ones that have stuck, i want to get into sailing. wiat, there's more. i want to own a small boat and buy a vespa. it works out perfectly... my traveling house and buggy. i will sail around the world and when i want my feet dry ... this is the genius part ... i will pull into port and motor around on the little red vespa. lets soak ... read more

These past few days have been for relaxing. Angie is running around trying to get all her paperwork done for the army, so if she has some problems with that, you won't be hearing from me for a few days. But I'll start blogging again after they get resolved. In the meantime, I'm babysitting AJ while Angie and her husband run around and take care of some of the paperwork. He's pretty cute. This leads to another first time life experience: the first time I ever changed a diaper was in Germany! I've watched babies before, but never any as young as him (he's 3 months) and never long enough to have to worry about changing them. Luckily it wasn't anything messy! He's napping right now. We didn't do much yesterday. We went into Kaiserslautern ... read more

Hello peeps. Angie and I are going to start doing stuff tomorrow; today was Sunday and everything here is dead then. But we have created a tenitive itinerary of places to go and when....we realized since we have to optimize the days the days her husband is off work (so he can watch AJ) and the other days have to include trips to close places, we need to plan where we're going and when. So, I share with you all what we are doing until I leave: Tomorrow, May 7th: Castle seeing and Heidelberg Tuesday, May 8th: The Japanese Gardens and Kaiserslatern Castle (and more of the city) Wednesday and Thursday Angie needs to take care of "getting out of the army" paperwork. Friday, May 11th: What we're calling the "Belgium Circle." We're driving and stopping ... read more

Hello!! My travels have brought me to Germany and Europe for the next few weeks. I have more access to a computer now also than ever before while traveling, so perhaps I'll be able to update this frequently! I'm staying (until May 19th) with my childhood friend, Angie, and her husband and baby AJ on the military base in Kaiserslautern. It's about 6:30pm here right now, and I got here at 7:30am. It was interesting because although French is my forte, I realized on the flight here I don't know any German besides being able to say, "shit," "no," "girl," "thank you," and that's about it. I didn't even remember (or really know in the first place) how to say "Yes" or "hello" in German, and with the insanity of school in the past few weeks, ... read more

26th June Monday AUSTRALIA Vs ITALY I slept in this morning and headed straight into town to grab some last minute things like postcards and gifts. I couldn’t find anything that I wanted and was pissed off. It was still a while till the match and people were everywhere. We went to the train station for our free transfer to pick up our actual tickets and waited in line. I was getting so excited!!! Once I got my ticket with my name on it I kissed it, and cheered. I then headed back to camp and got ready super quick. Clackers packed up the tent (thanks man) and we get a lift with Danny (the t-shirt guy) to the train station. The car ride was an absolute crack up. The car was tiny and it had ... read more

15th June Thursday The boys gave me their numbers and left for Munich on the train. I wasn’t sure what was the cheapest way to get there so I waited for Rowdy and Simon to investigate our options. The man that worked at FanCamp insisted I get a photo with him (!!!) and we headed to the trains. It ended up that train was actually our only option so we got a 5 day pass and we were on our way. When we arrived we met up with some of Rowdy’s mates and found some accommodation at 4You. It was complete luxury for me with our own bathroom. We checked out the main street and later on Rowdy and I got to properly catch up, although I think I talked his ears off. 16th June Friday ... read more
