Guten Tag!! Wow Viv and I know absolutely NO GERMAN. It’s been hilarious listening to her say things from our phrase book. Good thing many people here speak English. And the couple of people that we’ve run into so far who don’t have been very helpful, even in German. We got in this morning around 9am. We got our 5-day Berlin City Tour Card, which allows us to ride all the S-bahn, the U-bahn, and the buses unlimited. It also gives us some discounts on certain attractions.
We got to our hotel (Agon Opera Berlin) around 10:30am, but couldn’t check in until 2pm, so we left our luggage there and went out exploring. First we went to the Kaiser-Willhelm church, right down the street. This church, known as the “hollow tooth,” This church was bombed back in 1943. The tower that remains now serves as a memorial. Right next to it (see picture), a new church was built. We had lunch in Breitscheidplatz, the square right next to the church. Viv missed home so much she went to “Asia Buffet” and got some noodles (hahaha). I got rostbratwurst. Delicious. We watched some street performers for a little bit

handstand on three skateboards before heading over to the nearby Dunkin Donuts (America runs on Dunkin). Viv had a great idea to go on what she thought was a free bus tour in Berlin, which met over at the Dunkin Donuts. We got there and met the tour guide, Mick, who was very nice and friendly, told us a little bit about the tour we were about to start. At 12:30, as the group was heading over to the S-Bahn station, Viv realized that it wasn’t on a BUS but rather it was a walking tour (similar to the one we are doing tomorrow). So, we decided to ditch the group (sorry Mick!) and head back to the hotel to check in. After a shower, a quick nap, we headed back out to check out KaDeWe. This is Europe’s largest department store—8 floors with everything from big-name designer stores to electronics to specialty foods. We shared a bratwurst and sauerkraut (I’ve been craving this). On the way home, we picked up some cheese, bread, a potato cake, and fresh sliced salami to have back at the hotel. Our hotel, by the way, is really nice! Clean showers, big room, a desk, tv (that works),

i took this pic without looking! He's completely off the ground!! and wireless internet (our Paris hotel only had internet in the lobby downstairs). It has a great view too.
It’s been a long day so we’re going to bed early tonight (Viv’s already asleep). It’s been raining since about 9:00pm tonight, we even got some thunder and lightning. I’m going to finish up this blog, take a shower, plan tomorrow, then go to bed. I’ll try to post again tomorrow night…
Gute Nacht!
