Wednesday
So today was our first full day in the beautiful Berlin, Germany. We started out the day with breakfast at the hotel. It was AMAZING—on the top floor of our hotel overlooking OliverPlatz, we had cold meats, cheese, variety of bread, yogurts, fruits, juices, eggs, sausages, cereals…after breakfast, we quickly hurried over to our guided tour with Insider Walking Tour. We met at the Zoologischer Garten with our awesome tour guide, Mike. He’s from New Zealand (first thing I thought of was Flight of the Concords, he even showed us the New Zealand Embassy, but he didn’t break into song every few minutes…weird), is married with a four year old daughter (Chloe) and another on the way. He’s a major history buff so it made the tour even better. He showed us around all the major sights in Berlin, adding little anecdotes here and there. He even added a few jokes, but didn’t over do it like a lot of tour guides tend to do. He told us so much information, I won’t even try to rewrite it here. Here’s the basics of the tour: museum island, royal boulevard (Unter den Linden), Humboldt University (Albert Einstein, brothes Grimm, our

You can still see the bullet holes tour guide), famous chocolate store, Checkpoint Charlie, remnants of the Berlin Wall, Hitler’s Chancellery, Hitler’s Bunker, Memorial for the Murdered Jews, Brandenberg Tor. I’m sure I missed some stuff, but all-in-all an amazing tour. Mike told us about this really good drink called <
>. It used to be a brewing company, but they weren’t making any money so they decided to start making healthy drinks. They’re refreshing and very good! Apparently, according to Mike, Coke offered to buy them out for something like 40 million euro but they said NO. Good stuff. The rest of the day/night was uneventful. We did have a very good meal at Café Einstein on Unter den Linden, I had the wiener schnitzel. One thing I forgot to mention was how hot it was today…I was miserable (Jordan please go get a pool card so I can just sit in there all day when I get back). I’ve been taking 3 showers a day. I’m bringing extra water tomorrow.
Tomorrow we’re off for another tour with Mike—this time, we’re going to Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp (Mike gave us an amazing deal on the tour!).
I know I’ve been posting two blogs at a time, but this one’s going to have to wait till the morning. I’m exhausted and it’s definitely past my bed time.
I do want to say that we appreciate all those who read our blogs very much. We love the comments and can’t wait to see everybody soon!
p.s. sorry the pictures are so ugly today (the day was very blaaaah and i didn't feel like editing them)
