Edit Blog Post
... because I will no longer be able to say that the last hand down my shirt belonged to a totally pissed German dude dressed as a patch-work chicken...
(and THAT my friends, is an awesome beginning to a blog...)
It can only go downhill from here.
So.. back in Germany - good times! My first weekend back was a quiet one - it is so nice to be back home in Ulm again! Back to the apartment, the little Plus store, the Blautal centre... the Muenster!
The Muenster platz looks so empty without the Christmas markets 😞 So very much space - I kinda feel the need to have a game of tiggy or something everytime I'm there.
Wow... so I'm going home tomorrow. And at the moment I am listening to Wilson Philips - Hold On. Two reasons for that - Warren made me watch Harold and Kumar go to Whitecastle (though I would see it as a joint effort with the original Patty who has told me many times to see it) and they have a great scene where they sing it - and also... well, it rocks, your song rocks.
Oh
- I don't think I've said this before - but you should all watch
this. I have to say that some of the best nights I have had hanging out with Warren and Christine have been just hanging out watching awesome random youtube clips. And this is just full of the best quotes like... ever...
But back to the totally pissed german dude.
So we went on an adventure up to Stuttgart to go to the moofies! And we took the long way, taking in a small castle and beautiful scenery and stopping off in Tuebingen (that is soooo not how you spell that...). Up until that point, the only thing I knew about Tuebingen is that the worst drivers in southern Germany come from there. Incidentally it is also a nice uni town, and has a beautiful old town.
So as we are driving around looking for a park, we notice that there is a faschings parade going on.
Faschings! You know how Christians celebrate Easter right? well before Easter Sunday there are 6 weeks of lent, the first day of which is called Ash Wednesday (incidentally I will not have an Ash Wednesday this
Only view
Unfortunately they were closed, but we could see through a window... year due to time zones - I'm upset about that... I like Ash Wednesday) and just before Ash Wednesday is Shrove Tuesday - usually celebrated in Australia by the eating of pancakes (pancake day) and not much else...
Well over here, shrove Tuesday is called Faschings Dienstag, and most towns have a huge party - but not just on that day... the actual Faschings or carnival time goes for about 8 weeks or so and there is stuff happening all the time. Every town has faschings clubs, that have their own traditions, crazy costumes, masks... you have to be like born into the clubs too - like rotary :P
I'm not doing a very good job at explaining this (because I'm listening to my new favourite thing in the ENTIRE world - Hello Saferide... Swedish chick... she says Yanuary not January - I freaking love it!) but the time is just crazy... parades every weekend, confetti just constantly covering footpaths... its rockin.
So after we found a park near the parade, we actually found that the parkstation was right in front of the holding area for all the clubs that were marching - so we walked out
the back way and there were all these people dressed in crazy costumes drinking, singing - it was awesome.
We took a shortcut behind a building to get through the crowds of faschings people and closer to the actual parade route and as we were passing this construction site we saw this faschings dude taking a leak behind the barrier. As we passed by he grabbed his beers and headed after us chatting drunkenly (I couldn't understand anything..) before reaching into his pouch (like an actual pouch - I'm not being dirty) and grabbed a handful of confetti and got Christine really good - hehe.
But then he grabbed more and came after me, lifted off my beanie and filled it with confetti before putting it back on my head. Then he just grabbed me and led me to the parade and was chatting to me - I didn't understand ANYTHING!! I'm there going 'Ich nicht verstehen, Ich komme aus Australien, bitte langsein...' but nothing. I kept turning around to make sure that Warren and Christine were still there, but then the dude grabbed more confetti and just shoved his hand down my front - I was laughing,
Warren was pissing himself... then the guy got a bit grabby and I thought it was time to maybe ugh leave... You know, I didn't mind, I just didn't want all the faschings people to think I was TOO easy (just easy enough :P).
So there I am, wandering after Warren and Christine with a jacket, hoodie, shirt, thermal and a right boob cup all filled with confetti.
The parade was freaking awesome - we stayed and watched for like an hour and it wasn't even a third of the way through - people just get freaking into it! so cool!
Eventually we left Tuebingen and continued on to Stuttgart to the movies!
We saw PS I love You... or as I like to call it PS I love You (but everyone else thinks you're a wanker)... the coolest thing about it was the cinema, and seeing what Nellie McKay looks like.
Nah, it was good - bizarre to see a movie after so long, but good... Lisa Kudrow was good in it, and it had James Marsters in it (though I really didn't see the point to his role at all... AND WTF! is
Tellytubby!!!
Everyone gets dressed up - it's ace with his character on Torchwood? Why don't they just bleach his hair and call him Spike? Why dies he have a british accent? Jack is american - and they used to work together... why can't he use his real accent?...)
Anywho... That was my little story about Tuebingen and grabby german guys...

Parade! Woo! Australians don't have nearly enough parades.
