I was googling Japanese proverbs to put in here and came across a few corkers before finding this one;

If a man deceive me once, shame on him; if he deceive me twice, shame on me.

Yes, yes, like the Leeanne Rhimes song.. or better than that - as borrowed by the ever brilliant wordsmith J W Bush..

But mostly that quote reminded me of my brother Warren who I spent my last summer holiday with, and who does a fraking fabulous impression of this Bush quote.

Okay, so this year I am going to Japan for my holidays! Well, for a few weeks of my holidays. I am traveling between the 22nd of December and the 16th of January and... well, I'm getting pretty damned excited about all the giant salted rice crackers than I'm gonna be eating!!

I have been my last time in Oberstaufen... well, my last time for a while at least. Prepare for Susan to be not much fun all year, coz I really have to save all my pennies - I really wanna come back here next year... If I had my way right now, I would spend the year learning German and doing little else... but that could be the leaving talking (well, writing) So last weekend we had a great time down in the Algaeu. There was hardly any snow left after some bad weather since I had been there (which was before I went to France). But it was so awesome to see Doris and Hugo again! I felt like I was getting home again! I love those guys, they are always so nice and so ... read more

... because I will no longer be able to say that the last hand down my shirt belonged to a totally pissed German dude dressed as a patch-work chicken... (and THAT my friends, is an awesome beginning to a blog...) It can only go downhill from here. So.. back in Germany - good times! My first weekend back was a quiet one - it is so nice to be back home in Ulm again! Back to the apartment, the little Plus store, the Blautal centre... the Muenster! The Muenster platz looks so empty without the Christmas markets :( So very much space - I kinda feel the need to have a game of tiggy or something everytime I'm there. Wow... so I'm going home tomorrow. And at the moment I am listening to Wilson Philips - ... read more

Is it just me? or is season 5 of the L Word camp beyond description? And I am also getting this weird feeling that the writers are gonna have Jenny and Tina get together, it's freaking me out. Anyway... So I went to London. Which... you know, this being a travel blog I should really actually write about travel stuff right? So the Wednesday in London was effing beautiful... Sun was shining, a light wind was blowing, I was walking around in a thin shirt and dress pants - first day that I hadn't worn thermals for like... well it felt like a year, but I guess it was like 6 weeks. I was walking around the Tower of London and I felt naked, I kinda liked it - hehe. I headed out of the house ... read more

I think Fedde le Gand put it best when he said 'I LOVE THIS CITY!' Of course he was talking about Detroit, and whilst I have never been to Detroit, and know very little about the city, I can say, without a doubt, that if Fedde ever visited Brighton, he would re-release the track 'Put your hands or for Detroit' with the altered lyrics 'I THINK THIS CITY IS NOT WITHOUT IT'S OWN CHARM, BUT YOU SHOULD REALLY PUT YOUR HANDS UP FOR BRIGHTON BECAUSE - I LOVE THIS CITY!!' and maybe he'd also make the filmclip slightly less degrading to women. Annnywho. I love Brighton. Always have. When I was like 11, and Meg was still Margaret and Margaret was like 13, my mum (who was still called mum) took us over to the UK ... read more

Okay... I just want to precursor this entry by declaring (as I certainly will do many more times by the end of this) that I - Susan Shaw (aka Grotsky) am a knob. Knob... Wanker... Dickhead... Idiot... Tosser... For the purposes of this blog, let's just accept this classification as an indisputable fact. Just so that we're all on the same page, and now I will go on with my story. Actually... first I just want to take a time-out and talk about Dr Hahn from Grey's Anatomy. Haawwt! Like... wow. I remember her as the chick at the end of Silence of the Lambs (you know - it puts the lotion on the skin, it puts the lotion in the bucket...) and then she turns up on Grey's... and I was watching Weeds the other ... read more

It always surprises me how many people I run into who haven't seen 'the day after tomorrow'. Not to be confused (mainly by Aussie kids of course... or maybe that was just me) with the book series 'tomorrow, when the war began', 'the day after tomorrow' stars Jake Gyllenhaal (or as he should be known as - the cute brother of the most beautiful woman in the world - Maggie Gyllenhaal bring it on Brendan!! Maggie is hotter than Jake any day of the week, maybe not prettier - he is a very pretty boy - but definitely hotter) and is about crazy weather patterns that start happening really quickly due to global warming etc. I didn't see it for the longest time, just assuming it to be another wanky action movie - which,you know, it ... read more

I love France! Well... that might be an inaccurate statement. It's like saying that I like my hometown in Innisfail, when really I love our old home - a farm 5 minutes from Innisfail (in my memory - and heartwarmingly also in Raphael's - one of the best places that ever was and ever will be), do I love the main street filled with people who live in Innisfail? ugh - not so much. So to be more accurate. I love Raphael's farmhouse, situated about 10km from a small town Miribel-les-Eschelles! The beautiful view, the warm rooms, the lovely inhabitants who come home from work and school and smile when they see this odd relative stranger greeting them. My week in France was great! Well, 9 days really. Raphael and Claire both worked through the week, ... read more

... only one step away. Like four - oh crap! No, this blog is supposed to be about four COUNTRIES in one day... not seasons. Oh well... :P Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to another addition of Grotsky's Blog! This episode is brought to you by McDonald's Diam McFlurry "we think it's worth sitting on a fence for" Please however be advised that there is a slight delay on the 'susan's world (focusing specifically on particular regions of Germany, France and England) tour' blog service due to a signaling malfunction at laptop and card reader stations (can you tell that I've been hanging around in a lot of London tube stations?). Okay - when we last left our wonderful world watcher she had finally awaken from a deep deep sleep that she was put into by ... read more

This site is just so cool... I just spent like an hour looking around some truly inspiring blogs, I would tell you all to go look at my favourites but then you would never come back to my little un-inspiring blog now would you? ;) But seriously, massive snaps to the guy who started this Ali, just some dude who took of traveling and wanted a site where all his family could read about his travels - so cool how some things just start from not much at all. Like my tutor last semester was wanking on one day about the beginnings of the internet, when it was only code geeks who could get around. Anyway, these two code geeks would keep a list of every site that they found online, and when their bosses or ... read more

Okay, As I write this I am having the first relaxing day in what feels like 2 weeks... In actual fact it's been maybe 2 days, but my time is all screwed up, so please excuse any rash overstatements. Also please excuse any inevitable mistakes that will be present in this blog as I am writing on a french keyboard, which is not that easy as it looks like this... You don't want to know how long it took me to find the apostrophe - let's just all be happy that I found it okay? Well, this week I suffered a hard loss. My traveling companion and general life companion Bender (known to most as simply my laptop - trust me, I would marry that thing if I could... but if the movie Bicentennial Man taught ... read more
