A last Bonjour to you all. We are on our way home. We have booked the train to come home. We were offered 1.40 am , 4.40 am or 7.50. We chose the 7.50. We were warned that it would be busy and to expect delays . We just need now to work our way up the coast to Fecamp and then Calais. Our first stop was to try to see Etretat. We failed miserably as the parking was some way out of the town and not enough to the coast . The recent rain meant that the road ran like a river. When we left Cherbourg we were headed to the town of Fecamp, but in checking the tides, we knew it was too far for a favorable current, therefore we took advice we received from others and traveled only 4 hours to an anchorage at St. Vaast-La-Hougue. It was a nice change to be at anchor as we have been in marinas most of the time while in Europe. Only problem was we knew it was not going to be for the full night as we figured we would need to leave at 2:30AM in order to catch the tide. Bin heute späterer Nami in Yport (bei Fécamp) angekommen. Gestern war ich so unfit und irgendwie passte die Fahrerei einfach nicht, es windete teilweise stürmisch und bin in krasse Platzregen hineingeraten. Plötzlich dachte ich, weshalb stresse ich mich denn so..? Ich muss gar nicht mehr weiterfahren, sondern kann ja tun, was ich will.. und ich wollte ein hübsches Hotelzimmer. Und so war's dann auch, in Mons, Belgien, habe ich in einem hübschen Hotel übernachtet. Jedenfalls bin ich seit heute auf dem Camping Le Rivage, die Plätze befinden sich wie auf Terrassen und man hat Aussicht aufs Meer und die steilen Felsen, ebenso auf Fécamp. Die Franzosen sind sehr freundlich, die grüssen immer hier. Habe ein Plätzchen neben einem holländischen Pärchen, die sind total nett. Fühle mich sehr wohl. No bag. British Airways up to 25,000 bags lost. Finally we are all together and in the car. Off to Normandy, France. The Memorial and grave site was very powerful. To stand there and try to understand and experience of these solders was pretty intense. So many have sacrificed their lives for the freedom of Northern Europe. We walked around the grounds took lots of photos and visited the bunkers on the hill side. Al suggests we go to Mont-St. Michel, which is just about 80 Km or so from Caen. There is a castle in the middle of water there. As we get close, you can see the castle out on the Strait of Dover which is part of English Channel. Amazing! The castle is actually a Monastery.
