The 11th of May 2012 signified a sad day for us as it meant that our UK working visas had come to an end. I would never have guessed when we first moved to London that I would be that upset to leave in two years time; I didn’t even think I would make it to two years. We choose to live in London as most Aussies and Kiwis do for a base for travelling, which of course it was but what we didn’t realise was how much we would love living in the city itself. It was a strange feeling knowing that this time going to the airport we wouldn’t be returning in a few days time. Once we arrived in Amsterdam after a very short plane trip we could start looking forward to what ... read more

Playing catch up in the blogging game is not fun - it's interesting, reminiscing about the past year, but suddenly realizing how much I left out is a bit terrifying. As such, I've decided to put in a few short entries so we can see where I've been and then a longer one about the last few weeks. Let's take it from the top: France. France you see, was part of the summer of absolute craziness. First there was Vancouver, including the CHI Conference and a visit with family and friends. Then there was Brazil, and the crazy printer - there's a video here now by the way, showing the journey and what it resulted in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mEk4A7ETec Okay so that was that, then we went to Copenhagen literally overnight, celebrated father's day by participating in the ... read more

We left Paris today for Nantes. The main reason for making the trip was to visit the war grave of Barry's great uncle Noel, from who Barry was given his middle name. Noel was killed there in world war 1. We found the hotel very central and close to the town square. It is a lovely town, much quieter than Paris, which was a relief, and very attractive. We decided to visit the grave the day we arrived in case we didn't have time the next day. We ended up getting a taxi there, asking the driver if he could pick us up in an hour, only to receive a curt "Non". We found the grave without any trouble. It was sad to see that there were four Kiwis buried there so far from home. Noel ... read more

September 21st 2009: Today the weather was very good here in Paris. The sun was shining and the birds were singing. My friends and I then decided to go visit a famous place, and we chose the Louvré Museum. That place is amazing, you wouldn't believe how many art objects are there! We spent a lot of time there and when we left it was very late, over 4 p.m! Later on we decided to visit the Eiffel Tower, the sky was clean and the night was beautiful so we could see it perfectly. It was a terrific scene. The tower was nicely lit up and beautiful. I really enjoyed visiting Paris at my vacation, and I hope to go back there someday.... read more

And now I'm back in Nantes, currently working on cleaning out my apartment and getting ready to say Au Revoir to the land of cheese and Edith Piaf. I'm about to have my last week of work, which I have to admit is going to consist of me not preparing lessons and just playing games with my students. But I think they actually learn more from my games, so that's ok right? I am really ready to come home; I miss my family, my friends, and my theatre. Though I really haven't had much to do with theatre here and only saw a few shows, I've become quite sure that it's what I need to do in life. I can't express myself without it. Actually, I think this blog is partially a temporary replacement for it, ... read more

Hello again! I was just sitting here in my apartment, Lauren and I just dabbling on the computers, and thought I would write you all once again. The main thing that's happened since the last real entry was Margaret's and Andy's visit. It was really great to have the three of us together in Paris after being separated for so long with all sorts of new aspects to our lives. We went all around Paris, they came back to Nantes with me to get a glimpse of my life and friends here, went back to Paris and they we had to say au revoir. I think they could say that France is a wonderful place, but they're tired of croissants. ;) Actually, I'm pretty sure they DID say that, it's true, a croissant every day for ... read more

Hey! Hope everyone is doing well! So Margaret and Andy are here and we've been doing all kinds of fun stuff that I've written about before so I won't repeat myself. However, I did want to show you a video my students made for my class. So, I put my class into groups and gave them a type of business. Then I said that they needed to design a philanthropic program for their company and design an advertisement in English and present it. It was showing how business and peace go together. Like the Product Red line started by Bono and the Global Fund. So this group of cool boys went beyond my expectations and made a video. They were given the travel company. Be sure to watch it, it's pretty funny. Miss everyone! xoxo ps: ... read more

Hello everyone, it has been quite awhile. I've obviously not been good about keeping you updated, but I've been away from my computer the majority of the time, keeping busy traveling etc with Nick. Many exciting things have happened over the past few weeks and this entry is going to be a long one, so I suggest getting a nice cup of coffee, perhaps some mixed nuts, or just plain cashews to help you get through all of this! So, let's start with the night before I left Nantes to meet Nick at the airport in Paris....The date was Feb. 9th. I was so excited and anxious for the next day to come that I went through and super cleaned EVERYTHING. Scrubbing, folding, sweeping, you name it I did it. I actually cared about my apartment ... read more

Hey everybody, hope all is well! Well I thought I would write a little note to say a temporary farewell as I embark on my 3rd vacation since beginning work! I will be getting up at 3:45 tomorrow morning to catch a 5:30 train to the airport in Paris to meet Nick! I cannot wait! We'll be in Paris for 3 nights, Munich for 4 nights, and Milan for 4 nights. So, I will be at the mercy of internet cafes since I decided not to take my laptop on this trip, it's too much of a burden to carry around. Therefore, I'm not sure how many entries you will receive between now and then, but don't worry, there will be much to read when we get back to Nantes.... I heard the weather has been ... read more

Hello to you all, I hope this day finds you in good spirits. I'm currently sitting once again in the teachers' lounge after being told five minutes ago that I would not be taking the students at 10, it's becoming a normal thing, so I figured I would write my blog and do some more trip planning! The end of January has come and gone, it was not very eventful, considering I was quite poor after buying tickets and tours for my upcoming vacations. Last Wednesday, the girls and I (that includes John of course) went out on the town since none of us were planning on going to work the next day due to a national strike. The strike included any salaried person that works for a public service: teachers, post office, public transport, etc ... read more
