We having been living overseas for the last two and a half years (Canada and London), and now that our UK Visas have ended we are returning to Australia. Naturally we are traveling our way home... for 5 months.
We have hired a VW camper-van which we are picking up in Amsterdam and are planing to drive around as much of Europe as we can before returning it in Amsterdam in 10 weeks time. After a reasonable resting period we will fly to Nairobi, Kenya we will join a 2 month Kenya to Cape Town overland camping expedition.
We will try update our blog once a week with some interesting and amazing happenings from our once in a life time adventure.

With the West coast of France showing us her ugly side in the way of rain, wind and cold temperatures, this week we have continued to push south towards Spain in the pursuit of warmer weather. We picked up a baguette as we left the town of Nantes. I’ve never noticed on my previous visits to France just how many people carry around baguettes, every town and city we drove through there just seemed to be people everywhere with them- under their arms, in their backpacks, where ever they can find room. The small seaport town of La Rochelle was to be our first stop on the west coast and we had hoped that the rain would let up in order for us to explore the docks and old city wall. However, with our jeans all

I would never have guessed when we first moved to London that I would be that upset to leave in two years time; I didn’t even think I would make it to two years. We choose to live in London as most Aussies and Kiwis do for a base for travelling, which of course it was but what we didn’t realise was how much we would love living in the city itself. It was a strange feeling knowing that this time going to the airport we wouldn’t be returning in a few days time. Once we arrived in Amsterdam after a very short plane trip we could start looking forward to what

We booked yet another Travel Talk tour for this trip and went with a few friends. Arriving at Istanbul airport was an exciting time for me as being a New Zealand passport holder I didn't have to buy a Turkish visa so I got to wave goodbye to the Aussies in the visa cue and go straight through customs. Turkey lies on both the European and Asian continental plates, with 95% of the Country lying on the Asian plates (Istanbul is the only city on the European side). Istanbul has just two bridges separating Europe from Asia, and with a population of 13 million it makes for a

I therefore made sure we got to visit this history rich country while we were in the UK, with the Xmas/ New Year break seeming a good time to go. The trip started well with an upgrade to premium economy on our British Airways flight on Christmas Eve. Once we cleared customs and located our driver, we were all keen to hit the road. However, our driver really wanted some ‘top quality’ vodka from duty free, so nominated one of our fellow travelers to head back into customs, and gave him a hand full of Egyptian pounds. Okay, take two: Passengers check, Bags check, Vodka double check. The trip to the hotel gave us our first

After much thought I decided on German Christmas markets this year since that is where they started- and they definitely didn't disappoint! This trip was another weekend trip- and we met up with our friends Sarah and Steven. There are seven Christmas markets all with different themes spread over the city of cologne- with the Cathedral taking center stage to the city. First we headed to Markt der Engel as it was the closet market to our accommodation. I loved these markets, which were angel themed and had fairy lights all in the trees. Next we headed to Weinachtsmarkt am Kolner Dom which are the iconic markets in front of the cathedral- here

Although I think the word like may be a bit of an understatement for this Country- we absolutely LOVED it. Our trip started briefly with dinner and meet and great in Marrakech before departing for the Sahara bright and early Sunday morning for our three nights in the desert. The drive to the desert was great with lots of diverse stops along the way. First off we went to a very local souk (market) in the hills where all the Berbers (native southern Moroccans) were selling their produce and going about there daily life. It was great as we were the only Westerns. Next we drove high up through the Atlas Mountains to snow-which was quite a

As our time in London is coming to an end, we have been trying to get to places that we won't be able to get to on our planned road trip for next year, while still earning as much as we can- hence the Friday night after work flight. We chose to head to Bergen on the west coast as we had heard it was one of the most picturesque Scandinavian towns- thankfully it didn't disappoint. Friday was a write off, as we didn't arrive at our hostel until midnight. We went to bed hoping for no rain for our Norway in a nutshell tour the next day. Saturday brought clear skies so we excitedly headed to the train station
