Oh happy day! I first want to start of this blog saying thank you to all those who voted for Obama. I woke up in a frenzy this morning at 6:30 to discover his quick victory and I cried tears of joy when I listened to his acceptance speech. I can tell you that the world is already looking at Americans in a different light and I am prouder than ever to tell people that I'm American. Anyways.... So this past weekend was packed full of fun: Thursday night I went karaokeing, out to a sports and dancing with some friends of ours, Americans, Canadians, and French alike. Lucky for me, the bar wasn't very busy, so I got to sing a lot! You know me! The night was really fun and I can't wait to ... read more

J’ai vu ... read more

A good Sunday to you! Sunday is a great day to write on my blog because frankly there is nothing to do, except one magnificent thing: go to the market. And I mean MARKET. HUGE. Anything you could want! I didn't have any money, but as soon as I get paid that is where I'm going to do all my shopping. They have any vegetable, fruit, meat, bread, cheese, wine, clothes, flowers, jewelry, furniture, fish, toys, books, you name it that you could want. I even saw fresh bunny meat, fur and all, just off the hunting grounds that you could buy. I couldn't believe it! I saw live shrimp in a box for the first time too, I almost took a picture of these things, but it was almost too disturbing... It was really cool ... read more

Happy All Saints! Yes it's true, I get an entire week and a half off from work in observation of All Saints. Funny enough, I asked the students what All Saints was and what were the traditions, and they had no idea. Nothing to say. Then I asked, "ok, so is it just an excuse than to get off of school?" and they all gave me a loud and positive response. I'm thinking about taking a day trip to Tours and Chenonceau to see the castles there along the Loire sometime next week. Other than that and a Halloween party, I don't have many plans for the holiday. My second week of teaching is over, I find that the younger students are a lot harder to keep focused and I'm trying different tactics to get through ... read more

Hello everyone! Im sitting once again in the teachers lounge with much time to spare (4hours) due to spaced out scheduling and me thinking I needed extra time to do lesson planning....So its the second week of me actually taking students and so far...so good I guess. I really enjoy working with the oldest students that have lost their inhibition to speak, yet the freshmen equivalents regard me as if I have a turnip growing out of my head. I suppose its harder for me to understand since Ive never considered myself to be a shy person (yay theatre!). Oh well, i will break them out of their mold! Our internet finally arrived, as well as our land line and tv cable, so now i can make unlimited calls to the US! The weather here is ... read more

Just wanted to show you all how French I've become. Look at my photo, a baguette! And I'm carrying it in a reuseable bag that all the stores sell and then you bring it back to use again and again! Woo hoo! Also, I'm happy to report that I had a productive day in France, perhaps my first full one! Things actually went in my favor! I got my pre-long stay visa card, I paid my electricity bill, and I got homeowner's insurance! So, that's about all to report, just a quick hello! xoxo Cara... read more

Hey everyone! It's just a lazy Sunday, a beautiful one at that, here in Nantes, France. Nothings' ever open on Sundays, so I've done a lot of lounging today while I downloaded yoga and tae bo videos (gotta love Billy Blanks), did an ab and buns one, and just got back from a jog, it felt really good to just release some energy in this great weather. Haven't dont too much this weekend, Friday night we had a bunch of people over to our apartment and had several bottles of wine amongst us and then went out to a couple bars to explore the nightlife of Nantes. We didn't get to see too much because we didn't leave the apartment until 12:30, but it was fun to get the know the streets around here, plus being ... read more

Hey everyone.... So Im currently sitting in the teachers room waiting to go to my next class to allow them to ask me more questions about myself and do all that introduction stuff. Im a little annoyed with my schedule for this week because its spread out all over the place and today i have to wait 3 hours in between my 2nd and 3rd class. Im here until 6 o clock tonight! Im also annoyed because I was supposed to have a class at 3 today with the teacher Im staying with, but she decided to join the strike thats going on today for a certain union of teachers across the country. It happens all the time apparently; its like taking a sick day here. So now I have another hour to wait in the ... read more

Well bonjour all! Right now I'm in an internet cafe/bar having a "croque monsieur" and a glass of white wine because it's cheaper than a diet coke. I'm just doing some work before I have my appointment to get my long stay visa card. So I had my second official day at the school. Yesterday I just observed a class and they asked me questions and then had a meeting with the two principals to go over expectations and necessaties. I was only there for about 2 hours, then I head back to town to have lunch with the teacher I'm staying with (it's nice, they don't have to work everyday like teachers in the U.S. do), and then went downtown to try and get things set for our appartment. Well we arrive at the place ... read more
