Started the morning with a delicious pan au chocolate. Ghislain and i headed out to the Champs Elysees (spelled right this time). Took lots of photos at the Arc de Triomphe, and watched the crazy traffic circling it. Then we walked down the Champs Elysees, cheching out stores and stuff. I saw a McLaren Mercedes F1 mad cool. Grabbing baguettes (even a simple cheese and tomato w/butter is good, and the butter wasn't greasy... much better than the British equivalent.) we headed to the Louve. We met up with my cousin Betsy and her posse for half and hour to visit and watch her friends float their sneakers in the fountains. The louve is HUGE. So Ghislain and i went to the Northern European paintings. Wow. Once you get into the late 15th and 16th centuries ... read more

Well I figured that after spending all morning waiting in line to get the passport mess fixed I had had my major problem for the trip and was home free. I was wrong. I spent until 1am waiting in the airport trying to get on a flight. The chances of me getting there today suck cause it's Friday. At this point I'm trying to get anywhere in Europe soon. ... read more

Today Ghislain and i headed out so i could see Paris. Since we couldn't get in yesterday, we went into Notre Dame today. Churches arent usually m thing, but this one was gorgeous , with amazing stained glass. We took a long walk past the Louve (we are going tomorow) and down towads the chant de lisse (i know that is spelled wrong). We ate lunch at a great cafe in the neighborhood where Ghislain used to work. We explored a historically jewish neighborhood on the way to the Jewish museum. The museum was set up well, focusing on Western and Central European Jews as well as contrasting Ashkanazi to Shephardic judaica. After that we saw a small exhibit on the Tour de France. We met up with Ghislain's girlfriend, who is really lovely and nice, ... read more

The idea of never a dull moment best summarizes my first day in Paris. Even getting here was interesting. On my way to Luton i met another backpacker, Mike, who was headed to Portugal. We chatted a bit on the way to airport. After we checked in for our resective flights we went to go through security. I walked right though, but my bag didnt. Stupidly, i had left my brand new scissors in the bag with my scapbook in my carry on. So i had to check my carry on after some creative shuffling. This meant i had to go through security again. This time i must have looked dangerous because i was patted down, had my shoes examined, sweater xrayed and even had to lift my hair off the back of my neck. Then ... read more

Caren showed me this and I thought it would be a pretty good idea instead of sending emails to a huge list of people. So, if you want to know how my trip is going just come to this site and I will have news and maybe pictures if I can figure out how to do it. I am meeting Caren in Paris either the 26th, 27th, or 28th depending on when I can get on the plane. I plan to visit Versailles on the 28th and the morning of the 29th we will head south to Lyon. My next entry should be from either Paris or Lyon.... read more

this was the longest drive of the whole trip - 500 miles. man, we began to hate that damn bus. it was so frustrating watching T sound asleep all comfy in her corner while my big mongolian ass was trying to find a comfortable position. i couldn't decide which position was more comfortable: my knees against the chair in front of me, or my body twisted with my torso facing forward and my legs in the aisle. i didn't sleep much. big surprise. so we stopped in southern france and by this time, T & A were sick of european food. i mean, the food is good, but damn we wanted something different. so we decided to eat at burger king! i was excited to order: "one Royale with Cheese and one Le Big Mac". I ... read more

Its been a while so I figured you were all due another e-mail designed to update you on where I am. At precidely this moment I'm in Birmingham working out ways to avoid concentrating on reviewing some month end numbers......yep your part of my coffee break. Anyway, its been a really busy 7 weeks or since I been back. Every weekend I've pretty much had something on so finding time to sleep, let alone write e-mails has proven a little difficult. The weather here finally seems to have broken with an astounding top today in London of 15 deg........was all set to whip out the short sleeved shirts and make sure I had plenty of sunscreen on........funny how your definition of warm is altered......7 degrees = nice day, 15 = heatwave. So to update.....Paris.....ahhhh what can ... read more
