Berlin - Bavaria - Paris - Bastogne - Christmas Markets -- our German vacation was so full of spectacular sites, that I just would not be able to fit it all in one blog! Therefore, I will write this in sections, with each major segment of our trip having it's own post. This is segment 3: Paris! We have been planning this vacation for years! Well, sort of. My friend and old co-worker, Lisa, is ... Read Full Entry

Looking towards the business district...La Defense. Can you see the arch way down at the end? It's more square and the top crosses directly over this avenue. That is La Grande Arche de la Défense, or the Grande Arch. It ws built in 1989 as "a monument to humanity and humanitarian ideals rather than military victories." It's more cubed shaped and is actually a building, housing government offices.

Yes, I was standing in the middle of the street. There are "islands" there, so it's safe to stop for photos. ;)

Or Eiffel Tower if you speak English! ;) The river is still the Seine.

View from the first viewing platform. This is looking upriver, so to the SW...sort of. The river curves and does almost a complete U-turn in Paris.

View from the first viewing platform. That big building that sprawls out like wings is the Palais de Chaillot. It was built for the 1937 Worlds Fair, and now houses numerous museums, including the "Musée de l'Homme"...Museum of Man, which is supposed to be very good! Area itself is called Trocadéro for the hill it sits on, and the courtyard beyond it. Parisians just refer to the whole area as Trocadéro. So if you are told that the best view of the tower is from Trocadéro, they are referring to the hill of the museum. It sits higher than the base of the tower so offers a great view...so I've been told. We didn't take the time to walk up there. :)

c'est merveilleux!
One of the main reasons I've always wanted to go to Paris is to put a lock on that bridge! :-) So glad you stumbled upon it. The Eiffel Tower would be the second pick! Ha ha. The architecture is amazing and that Cathedral is absolutely breathtaking! I sure hope to make it to Paris one day. So glad you were able to go, plus have some family and friends to get in touch with as well. Thanks for the tour and for sharing your beautiful pictures. :)
