Launie & Jeremy

I decided to start this travel blog to add some story to our trips. As it is now, I upload the pictures to some site, and that's about it. This blog will allow us to tell the story that goes with the pictures. We will put any new trips in this blog, but since our next trip isn't planned for a while, I will start with the older trips. Some will be solo trips and some will be the both of us, but I hope all of them are interesting.

"Home, home on the range. Where the deer and the antelope play..." There are many songs that talk about "home" but this one that always sticks out in my mind whenever I go home to Montana...and I'm fairly certain it was sang aloud during this trip! It had been over 2 years since I had been home, so I was overdue to say the least! Jeremy was gone and I had the awesome idea to invite my good friend Amy to come on vacation with me...her and her 1-yr old adorable Lilly. Amy and I have been friends forever, and she has said many times that she would love to tour Montana. I brought her home once on a very quick weekend trip and she got to see about a half a sliver of Montana. This ... read more

What happened in Vegas...

There's no place like Vegas...ha ha ha. And since most everyone has been there at least once, I am going to keep this short and just talk about the "new stuff" that we did. First off, we decided to stay at a new hotel called the Aria. That lasted one night! lol! It's a luxury hotel...the entire room is electronic and controlled with the remote control. I'm talking the shades, lighting, temperature...all with the remote. The bed was super comfortable (and you can purchase them from the hotel's website) and the finish was modern and sleek. Now for the bad part. If you just want to pay an arm and a leg for a fancy hotel, then Aria would probably suit you just fine. However, we chose the Aria over other hotels that we were looking ... read more

Jeremy and I decided we needed to get out of the house, so we loaded up the dogs and took a day trip on some scenic Arizona roads to find some snow. I haven't gotten to be in the snow since our trip to Iowa for Christmas in 2008 (Jeremy got snow in Afghanistan), so I was overdue for some slushy fun! We ended up doing a nice scenic drive. We found some snow, and we found some more of what Arizona has to offer. Unfortunately, our scenery was cut short due to a flat tire taking up the last bit of our sun. We were on the steep, curvy, portion of Hwy 89A between Jerome and Prescott when we stopped at a scenic overlook to snap a photo and walk the dogs when I heard ... read more

There is a train trip on the Verde Canyon Railroad that I have been wanting to check out for a while. It's just a small 20 min trip up one way, and back the same way. We finally got some time and motivation to go try it out a few weeks ago. They have a special "Ales on Rails" all through the month of October to celebrate Oktoberfest, and we managed to get reservations for the last weekend. This 4 hour trip leaves out of Clarksville, which is a small town about 10 minutes north of Jerome on highway 89 and 2 hours north of Phoenix. It meanders up through the Verde Canyon along the Verde River to Perkinsville, an old abandoned ghost town. There, the engines switch to the other side of the train and ... read more

Since Jeremy and I never really had much of a honeymoon, we decided to take a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico to celebrate our 6th anniversary. We left Arizona the morning of June 30th and were to spend the following 4 nights in a posh resort in Cabo. We decided to go with a rental car to save on taxi fees...good idea. We also decided to rely on Stewert for directions (our Garmin has the voice of Stewie from the "Family Guy" and I call him Stewert)...bad idea! We updated all of our maps before we left, but that didn't help. First off, the street we needed wasn't in his database, then he was telling us to go on streets that didn't exist and turn the wrong way down one-way streets. After about 30 minutes ... read more

Ok, it sounds crazy to drive all the way to Montana to go camping, but it turned out to be an awesome trip! Originally we were supposed to go up to Utah and go camping with some of our friends that live there, then we were going to drive to Montana from there to pick up my nephews and bring them to Arizona for a few weeks. When our camping plans fell through Jeremy and I decided to just drive straight to Montana and go camping there. We had all the camping gear packed up anyway and had a couple extra days, so we figured why not! We convinced my sister and her life partner (lol) Scott to join us, and spent the weekend at Georgetown Lake. We got rained on a bit, but we still ... read more

This year marked the fifth anniversary of our marriage, and since Jeremy was stuck in Georgia, I decided to take a trip down there to see him. We decided that Savannah would be a better place to spend the weekend than Brunswick, so after I flew into Brunswick we made the hour drive up to Savannah. We decided on our first night there to go do a ghost tour. For those who don't know, Savannah has been dubbed "America's Most Haunted City", so naturally there are several ghost tours to choose from. We started off with one called Ghosts & Gravestones. It was a trolly tour that made a few stops and told you all the stories. This tour also visited the Sorrel-Weed house which is said to be the most haunted house in Savannah. It ... read more

Luke had it's semi-annual air show here this last weekend and I was thinking about going, but didn't. My sister said she would have been interested in seeing the pictures, but I have plenty of pictures of airplanes. Some were taken at Lackland AFB, TX when I was in basic training, some at Sheppard AFB, TX when I was in tech school, and some were from an airshow I attended when I was stationed here in Arizona the first time. I'll do my best to get the names of the planes right! So, Kelly, here ya go! (Ok so, after further review, I don't have as many pictures as I thought. It doesn't help that I can't find half of them! So I promise I will go to the airshow next time and take more pictures!) ... read more

Well since I showed you the pictures of Biloxi in one of her worst moments, I though it only fair that I show her thriving also! These pictures are from my trip back to Biloxi in August 2007. I was only there for 2 weeks this time, but that was enough time to enjoy the city. The change was astonishing! Some things were still being repaired, but this time there was at least something to do! The first time I went everything was closed except the mall...the only thing to do was to volunteer in the clean up efforts. This time though a lot of the casino's were opened back up, the beaches were open, the piers were rebuilt, the bridges rebuilt, the grass and trees were regrown, and it was beautiful again! The Hard Rock ... read more

August 1st 2006

In August of 2006, I changed career fields and had to go to Biloxi Mississippi for my Tech School. We were stationed in Utah at the time. It was a 4 week school, so I decided to drive. I crossed 7 states each way, and a lot of them were new to me, so I was pretty excited. It had only been a year since Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast. I don't know what I was expecting...I guess I figured that after a year, most of the clean up would be done. I was dead wrong! It looked like Katrina had just happened the week before. If the destruction was still that bad a year later, I can't imagine what it was like the day after. New Orleans got a lot of attention and damage because ... read more
