Pfa... read more

We began our second full day in Copenhagen just as begun our first - on the hop on - hop off bus which we caught to the main train station and then transferred to the green line which took us past the Copenhagen Zoo and the Carlsberg Brewery. We were not sure why you would spend your time here in Copenhagen at a Brewery but for some people I guess this wold be the highlight of their visit to Copenhagen. After returning to the train station, we caught the red line to Christiania which is a commune type area established by hippies in 1971 white most of the buildings built by actual hippies. The area is built on public land around a river and public authorities have turned a blind eye to construction and habitation as ... read more

Our first full day in Copenhagen began with commencing our 72 hour “Red Bus“ ticket on the hop on - hop off bus which will be our mode of transport around Copenhagen over the next 3 days. To get the lay of the land, we undertook a complete circuit of the red line and its 23 stops to we could understand the best places to spend our time around. Copenhagen has many attractions but the number one place to visit on everyone’s top 10 list is Tivoli Gardens which is a 150 year old amusement park built in the centre of Copenhagen. Walt Disney visited Tivoli Gardens in 1951 and it is said that he modelled the Disneyland theme parks around Tivoli Gardens. While we didn’t indulge in the amusement rides, we had a great time ... read more

Today is just a day of travel as we move our holiday from Ireland to the Baltic Sea so our journey started at 5:00 am as we packed the remaining of our belongings, loaded the bags into the car and commenced the 3 hour drive to Dublin Airport on the N8, N7 and M50. We allowed an hour and a half to drop off the rental car given the time it took to pick it up but dropping a car off at Dublin airport is much more efficient than picking one up and within 15 minutes, we were on the shuttle bus toward terminal almost 3 hours before our flight. We left Dublin on a dreary overcast day but arrived in Copenhagen to warm bright sunshine. After collecting or baggage, we caught the train directly to ... read more

So our last 2 weeks of the trip and one thing we wanted to do together was walk up to Pulpit Rock. It’s graded as a hard 2 km hike up, a round trip of 4 hours. Bernie knew it was going to be a challenge for her so we got there early with a packed lunch so we could take our time. Luckily for Bernie it was a cloudy day and quite overcast in contrast to the blazing hot days we have had of late. Well we made it and got the obligatory photo( you have to queue up for) and we were back down by 1.30. Heading south in Norway we stopped at a lighthouse called Lista Fyr for the night. There were a whole series of bells around the site that we could ... read more

We had been heading down through Norway and I think I had put up with a lot. I really didn’t like the places where we were close to an edge and I could see a long way down. I was not too sure about the train that when upwards but still I was very brave and I got through it. The last few days however have been very traumatic. I have definitely cracked it with those big noisy animals Bernie and Phil call buses and lorries. I only need to bark furiously at them and they disappear, not that I get any thanks for it just constantly being told to be quiet. My first scary moment was when Phil had taken me for a lovely walk along a beach and we saw some animals with long ... read more
They all were very scary - Phil saved me
Bernie tried to get me to go back to see them - no way!

I ran out of free wifi yesterday, so double-up on the blog today - quick entries because nothing that exciting happened either day. I'm basically just biding my time for Iceland lol. Yesterday was the last real cruise day: Copenhagen. I'd say a good 90% of the passengers get on-get off there, so the morning was a little nutty..! Meanwhile we like strut off the gangway like that's right, we'll be back. I strutted off to catch the bus only to have him pretty much close the door on me and drive away haha. My split second indecision of getting on the bus was too long apparently. Once we got into the city, I pretty much just showed Mom around the Old Town area and then we headed up to Nyhavn. We saw the usual in ... read more

18th July Copenhagen Wonderful, Wonderful Copenhagen, approached on another beautiful sunny summers day. As usual with late morning arrivals the buses are full and queues are the order of the day. As we berthed only a 20 minute stroll into the centre it was the way to see some of this easy going bonhomie of this ‘wonderful’ city. Copenhagen was the adopted home of Hans Christian Anderson, commemorated by the statue of the Little Mermaid, a bronze statue dated 1913 by a Danish artist Edvard Eriksen. It is the most photographed lady in Copenhagen, situated on the Langeline Promenade only 200 metres from where we were berthed, chances of us getting a photo were slim on our way out as the world and his dog (well tourists, mainly Japanese) were crawling (literally) all over her. Hans ... read more

Our first Baltic cruise takes into the Baltic with hopefully the highlight being 2days in St Petersburg Apologies for time delays but Internet on board is as usual poor and EXPENSIVE 8th July Southampton in the July sunshine, what could be better than a sail away from the UK in 31 degrees of sunshine. Within 24 hrs of leaving home we were in think fog in the North Sea and it was 15 degrees with the promise at the end of the day of a Force 7 gale. What a difference a day makes!!! Well at least the restaurant was quiet. 10th July Skagen After the travails of the previous day and a bumpy night it was our first port of call Goddag from Skagen. This is what’s called a ‘filler’ port, a half day visit ... read more
