This morning we set out on the 1 day packed itinerary on our App. First up is a canal boat tour. The boat only just squeezes through and under the bridges. In fact we can't go under one bridge because the tide is too high. The tour guide is quite humorous (not as good as me but close). Even though the boat is about 50% Asian he has some beauties. Apparently the Government of China and the Danish government agreed that given the Chinese like the Little Mermaid statue so much they should have it in China for a while......but then they worked out that half the population of China was in Copenhagen anyway so they sent it back!! Boom boom. Copenhagen is beautiful with all the buildings about 4 stories high. After the canal tour ... read more

I have to apologise to my public for being a bit sporadic. It has been gruelling over the last couple of weeks, but now I make a sincere promise to update the blog daily. Today we fly from Casablanca to Copenhagen which is certainly a day of extremes. $10 for a taxi to Casablanca airport, $200 for a taxi to our hotel. $100 for dinner including wine and $2000 for dinner including wine. The day commences without a hitch. We fly Finnair to Copenhagen without an incident and very little turbulence. We arrive late at our hotel which is on the Nyham canal which is one of the prettiest. They have set up Christmas markets along the canal and I'm not sure if it's for tourists or the locals, as there are plenty of both. Finally ... read more

Okay, so Ireland didn’t win their World Cup qualifying group, but a spirited victory in Wales coupled with a string of other scores going our way resulted in the Irish team going into the play-offs. Fortune further smiled upon us in the subsequent draw, sparing Ireland a tie against Croatia or Italy and instead pitting them against Denmark. And so Friday morning I find myself at Heathrow boarding an SAS flight to Copenhagen, anticipating a weekend of cold climates, enlarged expense and no little wear in walking the miles. It takes just 15 minutes to go from Copenhagen Airport to Københavns Hovedbanegård (Copenhagen central station) by rail. I found my hotel – Best Western Hebron, down a quiet street near central station, next door to a “gentlemen’s club”, small rooms, with a bed barely an arms ... read more

It was late evening by the time I'd landed in Copenhagen and was finally into the public area where darling Katherine was waiting for me. It didn't take long to drive to Hvidovre, the suburb where Katherine and Thomas now live having bought their first house. Previous to moving into the house the family lived in a two bedroom one bathroom apartment in Valby with a communal area for the children's playground. Now they're in a four bedroom two bathroom house with loads and loads of cupboard space and a beautiful big garden for the kids to play in. So it's a big improvement. My time spent in Copenhagen has been much different from the time I spent in both Italy and England. Now I'm much more into the domestic space, looking after the children especially ... read more

I had a pretty comfortable flight to Reykjavik and then I had a not so comfortable flight from Keflavik to CPH, but fortunately it was only 3 more hours. The first leg took a long time, but I ate a REALLY good marijuana cookie and spent that entire 12 hours chillin' out! It was nice. Again, I can't say that I was comfortable on the second flight, but hey, at least I was almost there. My much awaited trip out of the place that was literally going to kill me. Not because of drugs or alcohol, but the complicated stresses of American life. I couldn't wait to go and I left not knowing if I'd come back at all and It has made all the difference. Anyway, back to it. So I finally arrived in Copenhagen, ... read more

We arrived at our hotel which was a 15min walk from the central railway station and the centre of the City, so that was pretty good. It was early afternoon on the 27thJuly. The weather was overcast and not too warm, so after having a rest (nap) we had been up since 4:30am, we wandered back to the station area as nearby was the “Tivoli Gardens”. This is in fact the second oldest amusement park in history, the first one actually was started in Denmark too. The Tivoli opened in 1843. The Danes apparently love this place and it was indeed packed at around 5pm on this dull Thursday afternoon. It is a huge park and apparently Walt Disney visited here in 1955 and copied the ambience of the place to incorporate it into his own ... read more

We arrive in Copenhagen and walk into town. The famous little mermaid statue is along the waterfront. It is a beautiful day and lots of people are out enjoying the sunshine. We walk to Christiansborg Palace and take the free lift to the top with 360 views of the city. We also walk by Amalienborg Castle and take a picture of the guard. We visit St Alban's Church and Marble Church. Nyhavn is a very popular area to eat at one of its many cafes that line the canal. The colorful townhouses are from the 17th and 18th centuries. We walk through this area several times during our visit. Our second day here we go to Tivoli Gardens a famous amusement park and gardens. We buy a ticket that does not include rides. We enjoy our ... read more

We were up early again for another train mission to the north of Zeeland. However, there was a problem. Well, there were two actually. Firstly, a steady rain was in the air. I checked the forecast. The rain wasn’t in the rules. The usually reliable sources suggested it would be “occasional”. The Other Half forgot to bring her brolley out of the hotel, but I assured her that occasional didn’t mean it would rain all day. I was pretty much wrong on that one! The other problem was the train. The journey from Norreport should have been another easy direct journey straight to Helsingor on the regional train. Alas, the start of the Danish summer school holidays brings engineering works. A bit like home, I thought. I checked the journey planner. The recommended route was now ... read more
