Today was occupied with driving from Kotor to Sarajevo. Although it sounds rather mundane, it was in fact a journey of great beauty and pleasure. We had programmed our GPS units to take us through Durmitor National Park, and that trip was magnificent, and somewhat unexpectedly so. We had anticipated mountains but did not know that most of the trip through the park would be on very narrow roads wide enough really for one car but with two-way traffic. Rounding bends with no visibility around the bend was frequently an adventure. But with risks come great rewards. This was one of the most spectacular travel days we have had, and I think by general consensus the best of this trip. The narrow winding road snakes upward to high mountain valleys, meadows, and bowls, punctuated along the ... read more

Our trip to Bosnia almost turned into a non trip at the border when an official expressed his disimay at our lack of 'official' looking vehicle ownership documents and didn't understand how we managed to gt all the way from the UK to Bosnia without these. We tried explaining that we had only bought the van recently and the complete V5 hadn't arrived in time before we left but we had the back section. He seemed to think that a slip of green paper was a joke despite it having matching car details on. After several trips to his superior he said we would have to buy a Green card to enter, (we'd expected to have to anyway as our vehichle insurance didn't cover Bosnia). After being directed to a random office somewhere we found a ... read more

I met Dimitri in Amsterdam and it was raining and freezing which was a little shock to the system after being in 30 degree weather in Turkey. Regardless it was so great to see Dimitri!! We only spend two days in Amsterdam but we still manage to experience and enjoy all that this clean and peaceful place has to offer!! We rode bikes around the town which was good fun!! We then caught a flight to Athens, when we landed people clapped which was cool. Athens is a nice city, but at the moment there economy are suffering a lot - high rate of unemployment and while we were there there was elections and protests which was interesting to see. I love Greeks. The people are so hilarious. I honestly believe the movie MY Big Fat ... read more

I met my new chums on the bus to Sarajevo, 3 kiwis (not the bird) they were nearing the end of a fab overland trip from New Zealand to Beijing and from there travelling overland all the way to Portugal, a trip which would take them 6 months! As it happened we were staying in the same hostel and were kindly picked up by the owner to drive us there. I really liked Sarajevo, quite compact and was a blend of east and West, many of the ladies were wearing burkas but hardly any men were in muslim garb, make of that what you will! It was an interesting comparison between the people of Sarajevo and Belgrade, hardly anybody mentioned the war in Belgrade (apart from the demonstration of course) but everybody talked about it in ... read more
