We felt pretty Abba'd out as we sang Waterloo over and over again our visit to Waterloo. This is a second attempt at putting this blog on. I put it on way back in October 2011 but managed tonight to delete it as I added photographs to the blog. What a mess as I have no way of really remembering what happened on that day. Parking was pretty easy as we were in the car and managed to find plenty of empty spaces in and around the memorial to the Battle of Waterloo. We paid our money and walked on to the site. From what I can remember there was a restaurant cafe on site but it was not particularly good and we decided to give it a miss. I cannot remember how much it cost ... read more

I really need to get this out there: work is going great! I'm so blessed to have access to such an amazing facility. I wake up everyday and go into work knowing that I get to go use, with my hands, a facility that is uniquue to the world, and extremely interesting and relevant. It is certainly satisfying. Just finished today running our heat flux measurement device campaign for the Plasmatron, and so next week I will be doing a lot of post-processing, data plotting, and other computer intensive things. Plans for the weekend: Leaving tomorrow for Strasbourg. Plan on getting some kayaking in, visiting colmar, and the outdoor areas in the beautiful Alsace region. :) Also, thanks for all of the support everyone. Its so nice to hear from those I care about. Can't wait ... read more

Bonjour, During my Study Tour, I had seen many signs in the metro advertising a recreation of the Battle of Waterloo. Every time I went past, I said that I wanted to go to it and finally I was able to scrounge up some friends and we all bought tickets. We were all coming from different places, Gare Central and Gare du Midi, but everyone got on the train successfully. That was about the only time of the day when we were really all in the same place. Sara, Nicola and I saw the sign from Waterloo and jumped off the train at the station didn’t. I knocked on the window, as Xavier was asleep, and told them to get off. They all told us to get back on because it was the next stop. I ... read more

As mentioned previously, Waterloo is also a suburb of Brussels, to the south of the city, and only about a twenty minute drive from our home in Overijse. We would visit there quite often as it was on the way to the PX and commissary at Chievres (which coincidently is where the squadron that evacuated Dalat School in April 1965 is currently stationed in support of SACEUR). Also, our favorite Thai restaurant was located on the north side of Waterloo. In June 1985 we had the priveledge of witnessing the reenactment of the Battle of Waterloo in commemoration of the 150th anniversary. My Mom and Dad were with us, as they were on their way back to Thailand after an emergency health trip to the States. Again, enough text. Here are the pictures.... read more
