Het laatste dagje spelen in de sneeuw deze winter? Wie weet...., maar wij gingen er nog even van genieten. Miet en Kobe waren beiden ook van de partij. Voor Miet werd het de eerste keer op langlaufs, spannend. Terwijl we de parking opreden van ons lievelingsparcour, "Im Himmelchen" zagen we een kleine cameraploeg iemand filmen. Hij probeerde te vertrekken op langlaufs. Na wel wat breiwerk lukte het. Wel grappig om dit gefilmd te zien. Wij trakteerden onszelf eerst op een warm drankje vooraleer we erin vlogen. En toen werden we benaderd door dezelfde filmploeg, met de vraag of we graag wilden gefilmd worden? Niet echt een favoriete bezigheid, maar het leverde Miet en Kobe toch wel goed huurmateriaal op! Na lange tijd, weekend na weekend, hopen en proberen om te klimmen, ijsklimmen en/of langlaufen. Allé, nu was het eindelijk zover... Dat gokten we toch en de volhouders winnen? Zaterdagmorgen vertrokken Erik en ik vroeg richting Diepenbeek, waar we Kobe oppikten. Vandaar reden we naar het verborgen massiefje dat we het weekend ervoor hadden bekeken. De ijsval was juist voldoende om 2 lijnen in te hangen en een derde lijn was een behaakte drytoollijn van Bart. Hij en Sandrine kwamen wat later ook mee spelen. De crampons en ijsbijlen werden goed gebruikt. En de routes waren niet voor beginners. Een verticale ijswand omvatte het eerste gedeelte. Het hoger gelegen stuk was een vrij solide ijspilaar. Vrijdagmorgen kwamen Erik en ik de Decatlon buiten met een paar langlaufs. Dit weekend stond compleet in teken van Langlaufen.... De eerste sneeuw is altijd de beste, zeggen ze. En ja hoor... Zaterdagmorgen vertrokken we vroeg gepakt en gezakt voor ons avontuur. Kobe pikten we halverwege op. We starten op een kleine maar zeer gezellige piste in de buurt van Malmedy. Het leuke was vooral de ruime bar voor de tussendoor en apres-ski. We deden eerst een kleine lus van 4km om ons materiaal te testen. En verhuurmateriaal komt nooit zo goed uit de vergelijking.... Kobe heeft wel wat achter de kiezen gekregen. Zijn gehuurde latjes gleden zelfs niet bergaf!!!! Voor Erik en mezelf was het puur genieten. Up early for b/fast before a 4hr bus trip to Belgium. After a cautious lunch we stopped the bus at the top of the Mur de Huy and we stepped out into pouring rain and the first serious ride of the trip. A short work up and we rolled into the famous hill, famed for being Cadel's winning leg on the 2010.This hill wasn't too painful, the main problem being wheelies and the back wheel spinning on the paint lines in the rain.Despite reaching 26% it was quite short and we both managed it well. We progressed to the the next hill which was much tougher, still peeing down with rain but the country side was great so the time, mainly through agricultural land and then into forrest, so time passed very quickly. What a day! Set out on the hotel at 8.00 am into Stavelot and then immediately turned sharp left up a very big hill. Then we continued out though the Arden and over 5 very tough climbs totalling 1700 meters!. Continued for four grueling hours over 100 Kms, but the countryside was fantastic and we both finished very well. Weather was great, not too hot and intermittent sunshine. Back to the hotel for a a quick lunch and then we cycled up another hill to watch the race go by immediately adjacent to Franchecomp race track. Skippy attracted much attention again and a honk from the green edge car. Then it was back to town for dinner at a local resteraunt. This was a disaster. Up early for a relatively shot ride down a beautiful valley towards Leige culminating in a hard ride ride up the Cote de la Redoute, which was brutal (20%) for over 2 Kms. Then onto the bus into Lieges for the prologue. We inflated our Kangaroos and joined the 200,000 spectators. The Roo proved to be extremely popular!. We had our pictures taken by hundreds of people, we were interviewed by Chinese TV, the local news paper and La Mond asked to interview us on camera for its website. I politely declined because my spoken French is merd. Had a great day and avoided sun burn and at the end of the race, we saw Cadel start, apparently there is an excellent shot of our Roos which should be on SBS immediately before he goes off. ... read more

11/5/2012 Today there was mania as all the ‘Rhetos’ (all the students who are about to finish their last year of school here), all dressed up as outrageous things at school. All types of characters were there, from Ali G, to Cats, to superman. It was awesome how they caused ruckus all day though, and all times throughout the classes for today were just loud screams, rumbling of shifting desks, and just a complete dismissal of authority for the day. After school finally finished, we were all off down to the local for a few, and people from the three schools in the area came.
