Adam Hendricks found out that his internship started earlier than he had planned and he only has one month left around Europe, so we decided to have a quick and productive weekend by traveling to the other side of Austria and hit up the Alps in Innsbruck. With a quick 6 hour afternoon train ride, we found ourselves at the foothills of the Northern Alp region. The views coming into the cities were awesome, with mountains towering up on both our right and left hand side. Although a lot of the low level snow has already melted, the high peaks were still snow capped and spectacular to look at. Once we got off the train, it decided to start raining, which made it a little difficult to figure out where to go next. We had ... read more

Oops...so we have been having a little bit too much fun to update our blog for a while, but here goes! Last time we wrote we were in Barcelona. Since then we have visited Nice (France), Orvieto, Pisa, Florence, Rome, Venice (Italy), Novalja (Croatia), Ljubljana (Slovenia) and are now in St Johann in the Austrian Tirol region. Let me start at the beginning then. Nice was a lovely change from rushing around everywhere. The weather was perfect and we were able to spend a couple of days lazing around on the French Riviera eating baguettes and gelati. We found some amazing markets while lost in the back streets of Nice and just enjoyed wandering. We went to see 'the tower that leans' on our way to Florence, taking the obligatory tourist photos pushing it over. ... read more

After Venice we were sooooo glad to be in Austria. We were overwhelmed by the beauty of the mountains driving in, and were just even more amazed when we arrived at Innsbruk, a town surrounded by 'the hills that are alive with the sound of music'. It was so nice to be in a place of natural beauty. Our campsite even had amazing mountain views. We arrived in Innsbruk on 25 April Europe time - KELLIE'S BIRTHDAY. So we went down to the restaurant down the road and had lunch to see if it was any good for a birthday dinner. We wanted to eat light so Kellie had a salad that was lovely, but craig, his meal was a different story. What he thought he had ordered was meat and cheese with bread. What ... read more

Guten Tag! (Good Day!) We're here in Europe. Amber and I left Vancouver on Wednesday. We flew to Frankfurt. The plane was awesome. Yes, Amber was right it had two isles, but it also had a DOWNSTAIRS washroom and there was like 6 of them. I thought it was pretty cool. When we got to Frankfurt we had to take a bus to our plane because the airport was so big. As we were driving in the bus there was a plane taking off right beside us...Kinda sketch. The plane to Austria was a tiny little jet that we had to board it from the outside up the stairs. We made it to the Salzburg airport and it was easy enough to get around because it was SOOO small. At our hotel-pension we thought we ... read more

Due to the amazing sunshine we had in Kaprun, we had thought that summer had reached Europe and decided to break in our tent in Klosterneuburg, just outside of Vienna. We arrived to a really nice campsite with a kitchen and lots of empty pitches (we found out why that night). The lady at reception mentioned the weather could get colder, and offered us roll mats, but we didn't pay much attention because we were distracted by our search for a bar to watch the final matches of the 6-nations rugby. We didn't find any because we were in the only town in the world with no pubs! We settled for icecream instead and headed back to the campsite. That night we tucked ourselves into our tent (it had a 4 inch gap between the flysheet ... read more

Basically, after much fussing about in Vienna, we finally found our hostel. Then the event happened which cheered us up - Darvill arrived! Whoooo! However, we may have slightly disappointed him - after a week of staying in a 16 bed hostel room, full of people up to.. .shall we say, nightly antics, the joy of a four bed room with kitchen was slightly too much to resist, and as a result we spent most of Vienna in our room, enjoying the ability to shout, and play cards, and get drunk, without having to go back to a room FULL of other people, who appeared to mind if you fell over them when drunk, or turned the light on by mistake. We did get out and see some sights - Vienna is a truly beautiful ... read more

So i have finally gotten around to a bit of travelling. Amanda, as a teacher, had two weeks off and was off to do a tour and then a few days in Vienna, and asked if i wanted to meet up with her seen as it was the weekend. Jumped at the chance and as a result got to see two cities in 4 days. Managed to get cheap as flights, £85 return to Bratislava (which is the capital of Slovakia) and caught the bus for a 90min journey to Vienna. We got dropped off on some deserted street at 1230am. It was completely dead - no cars, shops or houses. There was no sign of a Taxi stand, as it turns out there was a train station across the road, but couldnt tell what ... read more

Moving north into a cleaner, more Westernized country was a bit of a relief. I adored Salzburg (Sound of Music tour, visits to Mozart landmarks) and was impressed with Vienna (Schonnbrun Palace, Vienna Boys' Choir, a carnival). The mountain views didn't hurt, either! Thursday, April 12 Travel by train for 5 hours into Salzburg, Austria, only to spend the night in a crowded, noisy and smelly hostel room. My jaw literally dropped soon after we crossed the border, thanks to the amazing views of the Alps. I snapped a few pictures, but couldn't do justice to the absolute majesty and splendor. It's times like these that I'm truly in awe of God's almighty power! I got glimpses of villages nestled into the mountain valley, each with a traditional church steeple as its focal point, with ... read more
