Already we are in our final week in Jamaica. We really have enjoyed ourselves and it is a reminder that Negril is one of our favourite destinations! We are certainly entertained everyday on the beach by the travelling entrepeneurs. I did a little experiement the other day. In a span of 30 minutes these are the products that came by for sale: ( fresh fruit, patties, cooked lobster, scarves, tours, beach balls, massages, aloha vera, popcorn, peanats, cotton candy, jewellery, fresh fruit juices, cigarettes, parasailing, baskets, baked goods, jerk pork, jet ski rides, art work) What more could you ask for!!?? These vendors are not all pushy or annoying, just amusing, friendly and hard working. Greetings from Negril. Life is a little slower this week since our friends headed back to Edmonton on Tuesday. Lots more reading, cross word puzzles, dominoes and card games! However, we still enjoy our daily walks on the beach, swimming in the ocean and watching the Jamaicans go about their daily business. One of the highlights here is the many live reggae concerts held on the beach. The only problem is they don't get started until 11 p.m. just when we are heading to bed. I guess the concerts are not for the senior citizen!! However, there is reggae music playing everywhere so we do get into the goove of it. Hi Everyone!! We arrived safe and sound in Jamaica on Saturday afternoon after some bizaar overnight flights. Oh well, coming back to Jamaica is worth a few red eye flights!! A funny thing was that we had to circle Jamaica for 30 minutes while they repaired a pot hole on the runway!! But we landed safely and our friends Gary and Carol from Edmonton arrived a few hours later and soon we were on the shuttle van on the way to Negril with a red stripe in hand!!! Our driver, Carlton gave us a little commentary along the way which was great. To us, Negril is like paradise!! I completed the Katimavik program on August 18th and returned home that day. I spent the rest of summer visiting family and friends whom I haven’t seen for 6 months and missed very much. I wanted to get involved in the travel industry so I wanted to find work in a hotel. I worked at a Future Inns Moncton as a housekeeper. The work was not bad, but I really started to get bored of it, and Moncton. So almost every night when I got home I looked for work anywhere but here. I looked everywhere from in Canada to overseas. Hello hello, I’ve now been onboard the Oasis for 100 days. Which means that coupled with my seatime on the Independence, I only have 132 more days until I’m finished on the Oasis. But more importantly, I’ll be finished as a cadet forever! Life here is interesting as always. Seems that every day offers something completely different. Last week in Fort Lauderdale I went with one of the fire teams to a marine fire school. It was a fantastic learning experience! We coupled search and rescue with fire fighting in enclosed spaces, so it was even more hands on than the last time I went to fire school.
