This is another port and adjacent port area that has been built with mooring so the ship has no need to use tenders to reach shore.
As we have done various organised trips every day so far, we thought we would not have one today, and stay around the port instead. This proved to be extremely relaxing and great fun.
We had a wander around all the normal tourist shops around the port.
Within the port shops there were several interesting items that been put out for photograph opportunities. Many of these were comical character feet or bodies with heads missing.
One object that caught George´s eye was a cake that opened up, like you would get at a birthday party. He found that there was a door at the back of the cake to enable people to get inside and could not resist entering. Quite a crowd was gathering and viewing or also waiting to get inside the cake. He thought it would be a great photograph to actually be inside the cake rather than just standing alongside it. He proceeded to get inside the cake as Theresa walked away to position to take the photo.
Theresa was expecting the lid of the cake would open and George would appear. What none of us had bargained on was the cake had easily moveable caster wheels. As he got inside it, it started to move and progressively roll forward. This caused great hilarity for everyone that was around at the time. Once inside it, because he was carrying our valuables bag, it was almost impossible to prevent it rolling forward down a slight gradient. After stopping laughing, Theresa stopped the cake then headed off again to get a photograph. If only we had had the video ready, this would have been a good one for YouTube.
Whilst organising the trip we had spotted that there was a chair lift here to the beach, which we thought would be something different to do. When we got to the chair lift we realised, that actually, it might be far nicer / healthier to walk to the beach instead. It was not too far and was a nice scenic walk. There were many nice personal photograph opportunities on way. Due refreshment was taken along the route..
Whilst looking around the shops, we came across a hut that was
offering an Official Honduras passport stamp. We hadn´t really thought about that until arrival here so got one for each passport at this port. Shame we did not think about this before as we have potentially missed out on three or more official passport stamps.
The boat sailing was scheduled to sail at 3.00pm today, so we were back on board for lunch again. We had lunch in the lido restaurant as had become habit for us. We had an extra visitor for lunch today as looking out of the ship’s windows we had a Ray swimming about in the bay below right adjacent to where our ship had moored. He foraging for food off the bottom and remained there for over an hour. It was impossible to photograph it through the windows at deck 10 in the lido. It had a black back and a bright white front and looked so graceful.
When we were enquiring about cruises, one of the things everyone mentions is to watch the late people returning to the boat. Again we went to one of the open areas at about 2.45 pm, and yes it was very interesting. It was more prolific
than the last time we watched it. As we left the ship we were all told that we had to be back by 2.15 pm, but at 2.45 pm there were still many passengers wandering down the walkway slowly. At 2.45pm, the ship head count had been completed. A broad loud announcement was made aboard the ship for those persons / offenders who were not present. For the next 15 minutes and every two minutes thereafter, the ships powerful marine horns were repeatedly sounded / blasted 3 times to alert those concerned that the ship would be leaving without them. These miscreants quickly emerged from the nearby shops for the up anchors and away we go again. We saw the tried and tested system to affectively deal with poor timekeepers succeed again. Some were clearly worse for wear and others simply did not care. We eventually left Honduras at about 3.45 pm.
