Thats a nice coconut.
Outside the snorkle equiptment return shack in West Bay. What a Whirl-wind!
This cruise has been full of highs and lows, good times and bad, and moments of dis-belief.
We are currently sailing back from our Central American or Western Caribbean cruise. The cruise started off with Vanessa my previous T&D Manager signing back onto the ship. I am so happy that she is back. And she is happy to be back as well. I can say the dynamic duo are back together and going strong. For the first few days we caught back up and talked about what it was like onboard without her here. We laughed and then found some very interesting records left behind from the previous manager. But for the most part we have just been talking about the T&D Managers conference and what it is like to go to conferences with Carnival Cruise Lines and go to a place called Star Centre. This place apparently is where you go to be certified to teach Crowd, Crisis and VFTT courses. All of which I am not certified to train. Vanessa came back from the conference with a lot of great ambitions and drive about what we are going to strive for in our centre,
CNN report of the attack.
70 year old War Vet takes matters into his own hands. all of which are fantastic. As previously mentioned, Vanessa is dating the Safety Officer - a three striper. He signs off at the end of this cruise so I am making sure to work as much as I can so that she gets to spend time with him. I know she will repay the favour sometime.
I managed to get off the ship in Panama this cruise because I really wanted to go and buy some new sunglasses. I like mine but considering I don’t have anymore debt and there is no where to spend money onboard I am trying to find reasons to spend money which isn’t a good thing at all. Slap my hand… The reason I got off the ship in Panama to buy sunglasses is because there is a place called, “The Free Zone”. Most items you have to buy in bulk, but some stores are ridiculously cheap for items such as, cologne, sunglasses, shoes and clothes. But when I was in the Perfumery I had a moment of my mother would slap me if I actually bought 250$ sunglasses. So I put them down and left as quickly as I could. Instead I bought
Ready set splash.
Another favourite picture I have taken. some new hot black Lacoste sandals. They will have to do for now.
But here is where things start to go a little off, almost as if you had some bad cheese or spoiled milk. Our ship was notified that we would not be sailing to Limon, Costa Rica this cruise. One of our other ships the Carnival Liberty was in Costa Rica and a group of elderly passengers decided that they were going to go on a country tour when they were high-jacked by three men. Two of the men had guns and one a large machete. On the tour was a 70 year old ex-military man who decided that he was going to take control of the situation and wrestled one of the assailants. The 70 year old man actually killed one of the high-jackers, the one with the machete. I was shocked when I found out. And then I had a moment where I thought, would I be able to take charge of a situation like that? And for that matter, what if he had not been there? Would the high-jackers just wanted money and jewelry or something else? But none the less we were re-routed
Get a tan in Roatan
Entertainment girls lathering up. to another island.
We received notice that we would be going to Honduras, and the island of Roatan. I have heard that Roatan is nothing short of spectacular. So although it was horrible what happened in Costa Rica, I was excited to go somewhere new. So off we go to Roatan. I decided that I would take Roatan as my day off because I didn’t know if I would ever get the change to go back there again. And I was sure glad that I did. A large group of us mostly entertainment, with a few others, such as gift shop, A/V, Internet Café Manager etc… got into a van and off we went. We snaked through the hills of Roatan with the image of Honduras in the background, as we depart for West Bay beach which is supposed to be amazing.
But here is where things start to go a little off. As we walk onto the beach and are stunned by the amazing views and search for places to lay our towels we heard, a sharp scream, “Does anyone know CPR?”, for a moment I froze. I then dropped my bag and scanned the beach for
who needed assistance. Then to my left floating like a log in water was a man face down. Again I froze. Chelsea one of the Production Singers and I ran over, pulled the man out of the water and as Chelsea yelled for everyone to step back I turned over the man in the recovery position. What I saw was shocking. He was more blue than any blue that I had ever seen. I knew he had passed, however I turned his head and let the liquid run out. As I searched for his sternum to begin compressions I heard someone yell, these ladies are nurses, I then backed off as I knew they would be more competent than me. I walked back to the area where the rest of our group stood. I sat there in shock for sometime as did everyone else but I couldn’t sit there without knowing what the outcome for the man was. I learned later on that he unfortunately passed. Throughout the day I couldn’t shake this image of the man’s face when I rolled him over, but was more unsettled by the amount of people on the beach who stood there watching the
man without helping him. Even the police officers and scuba divers on the beach did not know CPR. I understand that most people either fight or flight in cases of crisis. But I remember thinking, I don’t remember CPR, but knew I had to go over and try and help anyway I could. I am just sorry I couldn’t help more. May he rest in peace.
As odd as this will sound, the rest of the day was great. We sat on the beach with tropical drinks in hand surrounded by fantastic people and gorgeous views. It was as if I was on the beach for Spring Break with a large group of close friends. I have managed to make some great friends onboard so far and will surely miss everyone when they/I leave. I know that I have said that there hasn’t been a beach that compares those on the small islands outset from Cuba. I think Roatan might match them. They were majestic and breathtaking. The owner of the bar we were at all day - Tommy - was great. He ensured our glasses were topped and our tummies full. I left the day thinking I am
Group Shot
This is a group shot taken by the owner of little bar/restaurant on the beach. glad to have all of these experiences and know I have made the right choice joining Carnival as a Corporate Trainer.
My best friend Kristen and her cousin Kim arrive tomorrow and I am overly excited to see someone from home and have someone who understands all of my little idioms. Nobody understands you, like someone you have grown up with.
So as you can see I have had some severe ups and downs this cruise but can report that life continues to show me that regardless of the environment I manage somehow.
Take care everyone
