Krissy, Kim and I
Our delicious dinner at the Supper Club. I think if I had to sum up last weeks voyage in one word it would be “Ironic’. Last week I had my best friend sail - Kristen, and her cousin Kim. It was sooooo nice to have familiar faces from home sail and I was craving some comfort from home as well. So it was very nice to have that when they came.
The week before they came I was running around the ship trying to make sure that I organized everything I could for their voyage. I wanted them to experience cruising at its best. I organized for the two of them to be models for the spa - one would receive a facial and the other an Isothermal massage. I organized for an upgraded room from the original two twin beds with no window to a suite. It had a king size bed and best of all a balcony over looking the ocean. We went to super club, watched the shows and I even took them to one of my favourite places - Marigot Bay, and yes we event took the water taxi back to the port too.
So now for some irony. I worked so
Puerto Rico
A Fort in the San Juan harbor. hard to have such a great time with my friends and then I find out that my Sr. Manager will be coming onboard the same week to evaluate my manager and I. Then I get sick, and then my manager gets sick and I have to cover for her for 2 days as she recovers, all the while running around trying to get in as much time with my friends as possible (I needed it) and being watched under a microscope from the Sr. Needless to say that I wasn’t all peaches and cream, and Alanis was right all along. “Its like rain, on your wedding day, it’s a free ride but you’ve already paid, it’s like some good advice that you just didn’t take…” but I think you get the point.
But back to the visit from the friends. I wish I could have spent a little more time with them but I am glad that I got to spend as much time with them as I could. I need to make sure I thank my manager and my Sr. for allowing me to see my friends as much as I did. They could have been complete asses
and not let me see them at all. I hope and think Kristen and Kim had a great time. I certainly had a great time having them here. It was nice to see a Sr. and see what their job entails whether I agree with it all or not. I have said before that the one thing that I have to keep in mind is that I am not in N. America right now and the management structure isn’t the same onboard ships. If someone who is higher ranked than you comes onboard or is already onboard and says jump, you inevitably have to say how high without a whimper or complaint. WELL…. You all know me and all know how opinionated I am. I could have kept my mouth shut a little more.
I almost forgot to mention that on this cruise we made a little detour to San Juan Puerto Rico. Alike most voyages, this one was definitely not lacking in the hip break, terminal illness etc… areas. We had to medically detour to P.R. to disembark some guests who had medical emergencies. Here in lies the irony again. Because of such trauma with all of the
Singin' with the Big Band
Christopher Allen Graves - and the Legend Dancers. medical matters onboard we are detoured to a beautiful place like P.R. and get to see a historical fort on our way into the port. I don’t want to say that being onboard has made me numb to all things medical but it is such routine that when I hear a medical alarm over our internal P.A. system I just say, “Here we go again”. But given that most of the medical matters are hip breaks or asthmatic matters, and with the amount of 700 year olds on board it is any wonder.
But all in all the week wasn’t all that bad when I think about it. I got to see my best friend, hug her, talk to her and get a slap with reality. It was truly needed. I tried to do my best to explain to her what it was like on board so when I return home and all I am doing is talking about my time on board someone will understand. And for those of you who are wondering. Being on board is like High School Social Structure and Gossip-esque, living arrangements are University Dorm Style and it’s all packaged together as if we
