Geo: 37.8127, -120.064As a child my dad was a Thousand Trails RV resort member, although we always camped in our tent trailer. We stayed at Yosemite Lakes once a year, sometimes twice. Later in my childhood, they had built a yurt village. So, if we happened to visit in the winter, we'd end up staying in those. I guess it's come full circle now. I'm now staying in a yurt with my new family on a snow trip to Yosemite. =) There's something beautiful in that. The snow line was at a low enough elevation that there actually was snow at the campground. We got there early but since we were the only ones staying in the yurt village, and possibly the entire campground, they checked us in ahead of time. Our yurt was warm and waiting ... read more

Geo: 37.7792, -122.42I awoke decently exhausted the next day. Staying out late drinking and over cramming bodies into a hotel room with tiny beds just ain't what it used to be in your 20s. Paul and I decided we needed coffee STAT. Or we'd likely murder everyone. So we grabbed coffee while everyone else finished getting dressed and packed. We all walked over to a nearby placed called Dottie's. The line was as ridiculously long as the food was good. We'd tried to come here for breakfast after my bachelorette party a few years before but were immediately turned off by the long line. I'm glad we waited it out this time. =)After that, I begged everyone to make a quick trip to Twin Peaks with me. I wanted to play tourist. It was an incredibly windy ... read more

Geo: 37.7792, -122.42I guess I need to preface with, in our group of friends, I'm the hardcore planner. I end up planning most of our trips, not even because I have to. But because I LOVE to. I love planning group events and trips. I love having everyone together. We have fun whether it's a high class meal or super basic camping weekend. But THIS time, they planned everything. Most of their plans went awry due to restaurants bailing on the commitments but I was incredibly touched that they went through the hell and effort to organize a huge group overnight outing. They even planned a burlesque show by convincing the venue to do a show on a night they're normally closed!I must say my first Burlesque experience was fantastic. (Unfortunately, I was too drunk to remember ... read more

Geo: 36.8044, -121.786The next morning we woke up way too early considering how little sleep most of us got. We cleaned the house much faster than I expected (we have a great group of friends who know how to get crap done when needed). We walked on the beach, enjoyed our coffees and bagels on the back porch with ocean waves and then packed to go.Half the group had to make it back home but the rest of us were in some serious need of hangover Mexican food. We went to a nearby Mexican place in Moss Landing. They opened at 10am thankfully. We feasted. I had an amazing grilled artichoke, btw. After that we headed home but stopped at Marianne's ice cream in Aptos on the way.... read more

Geo: 36.5976, -121.897After Wine Trolley, we headed over to our Beach House to check in. I had rented one off VRBO for a fairly affordable price (I had everyone chip in for costs). It was gorgeous, right on the beach. The owner gave us a keypad code to get in so we didn't even need to check in with anyone actually. We hid the bride in a bedroom while we decorated as fast as we could. I brought all kinds of stuff. I'm an overplanner- I can't help myself. I put way too much effort into the weekend. I forgot in general that drunk girls just like to drink, cuddle and take selfies. I didn't need to go the extra mile with decorations and food the way I did. Still- it was a fun Pinterest experience! ... read more

Geo: 36.4797, -121.731We arrived bright and early to the harbor in Monterey, where the trolley was picking us up. We ended up with most of a trolley to ourselves (there were two). I think people realize we were a bachelorette party and wanted as much space as possible from us.The Trolley drove us up into Carmel Valley away from the coast to a bunch of wineries. It basically stopped at one and we just walked around to the rest. We ate our provided boxed lunches at one of the wineries, and then continues on to more. We probably went to five or so in total. There was even a wagon ride that we took from one winery to another! It was run by a very old crotchety cowboy who ordered us around. Being quite drunk at ... read more

North America » United States » California » Big Sur June 28th 2015

Our last day we packed up camp, and then planned to head to Pfeiffer Beach. And so did every other tourist at 10am. =( We didn't make it. It's a one lane road, and the parking lot at the end was so full that people couldn't even finish the drive to get close. We had to turn around like the majority of the cars. So my advice to you, is if you're planning the drive to that iconic Big Sur Coast locale, leave early if it's a weekend. We went to a better beach anyway- Carmel Beach. It's got pretty white sand, and it was warm. The Pacific Ocean is cold as hell, and I don't usually go in the water when I'm in Santa Cruz. But it was actually very nice in Carmel that day! ... read more

Geo: 36.5552, -121.923 Day Two was rather action packed- much more so than expected. We just sort of wandered up and back down the coast doing one thing and then another whenever we felt like with no general plan. Chris and I have been to this area a lot on previous trips but it was fairly new for the others. We started off the morning by heading to a couple of my favorite haunts in the area- Carmel-by-the-Sea and Point Lobos. We got coffee and window-shopped. For lunch, we picnicked at Point Lobos, one of my favorite nostalgic places. I grew up going here a lot with my mom on short hikes. We walked one of the trails along the rocks and water. After that, we decided to head south again. We stopped at the Big ... read more

Geo: 36.2703, -121.806 The first day we spent a couple hours driving south to Big Sur. It's a big area and all the state park campgrounds were booked. So, I ended up paying a little more for Ventana Campground, and I wasn't disappointed. It ended up being one of the nicest campgrounds I've ever been in. It's very well maintained, and highly recommend it. ;) We set up camp (Yasmin and Paul decided they were going glamping), cooked dinner, and hung out around the campfire roasting marshmallows for s'mores, eating cookies and drinking wine. Just talking. =) Then we played a board game in the tent until we crashed for bed.... read more

Geo: 38.2508, -122.964Arya was up before the crack of dawn. I think the biggest lesson we learned about camping with an infant, is that they don't give a crap if the sun isn't up yet, or that you're sleeping in a tent that isn't soundproof- when they want to be up, they're nice and vocal about it. For the entire campground to hear! She woke up her grandpa, too- so me, Arya and Grandpa had coffee in the RV while Chris slept a bit more. That day we took a trip out to Dillon Beach. My parents really like that beach because it's dog friendly. Fritz literally goes everywhere they go. I doubt they'd go anywhere he couldn't, lol. It was incredibly windy but we find a tame spot behind a dune. After picnicking on the beach, we ... read more
