Geo: -32.8927, -68.8331I did choose the wrong bus company from Cordoba to Mendoza, why did I do that? hmmh...I simply didn't know better...The bus was awfully slow and went the route over the mountains to some towns in the mountains where people go on vacation. It felt like somewhere in Bavaria, Germany... Anyhow, after a looonnnnggggg slooooow bus ride I did arrive in Mendoza in the afternoon...Very welcoming...It's the southern hemisphere summer so everyone was out...Everybody had a bottle of wine and sitting outside chatting with others...Nice place, I planned to come back...Didn't make it quite but that's another story... I was waiting at the terminal de Omnibus in Mendoza for a bus that goes to Santiago Terminal Sur...As I was chatting with a bus driver, he just said, this one is going, hurry up and ... read more

Geo: -31.4, -64.19Didn't I mention it...I hate bus rides...anything longer than 3 hours is awful...Anyway, it was a double decker sleeping kind a bus...It was quite ok...What company was it again?...Flecha Bus...Nice reclining seats...A long way to Cordoba anyway...good night...Arrival in Roma, Italy, oops, I mean in Cordoba, Argentina...anyway, it does feel like Italy...all these Italian immigrants here, a nice vibe...At the bus station it does feel like being in Italy, nice breakfast with high quality espresso from Italy...... read more

Geo: -25.3005, -57.6362There you are...my cute Asuncion, how a-yo?...Nice to be back after...28 years...holy crap, really that long? arriving by bus from ugly, crappy Pedro Juan Caballero...Asuncion it's not just beautiful, it's a very friendly and safe city. Funny story...the bus was passing through Concepción around 1 AM, I did not expect to see anyone out at that time but...who de phuck is here... two Jehovah's Witnesses sitting on a bench in the night and reading the bible to each other...holy crap...Did they have nothing better to do in the middle of the night in the middle of Paraguay? Around 6 AM I was arriving at Terminal de Omnibus de Asuncion...I grabbed my luggage and got hold of a taxi to bring me to a hostel I have chosen out of a list on the Internet... ... read more

Geo: -22.5472, -55.7333...What's the Elevator Pitch once again?...Yep...It's a friendly border town where brazilian druglords greed each other...Oops...how did I end up in such a craphole?...Hmmh...let's see...weel there was a bus from Campo Grande leaving to...just forget the excuses...Besides druglords...It's loaded with those lost Chinese souls who run their business side by side copying each other and competing for whom...The customer...but..yes, Brazilians do their shopping runs from Sao Paulo and other rich cities to buy up the newest rubish chink technology, it comes with the usual guarantee of being the lowest quality any technical item could probably be...Hopefully the toaster you just bought will last for the first few slices of bread...I was hanging around a few days simply inhaling the crappy experience...Well, to be honest, I was rather forced too. South America » Brazil December 1st 2013

Geo: -20.4435, -54.6478I went to the bus station just to check the timetable for buses leaving to...anywhere...Being in Brazil...Campo Grande was very cheap for 95 Reais...I just bought the ticket for the next morning...On my way out of the bus station I met a guy who approached me and asked, "what do you need"...Being a traveler...I usually never need anything from anybody...I am well traveled and accustomed to strangers approaching for...Usually to empty you inside out...No, not this guy...He was an Austrian guy and spoke in German to me... He made up his mind...I had to be German...He was married in Brazil and after some years stranded alone and lost his money...It does ring a bell...My 20+ years in Asia introduced me to an endless amount of such characters...They leave home equipped with 10000 EUR in ... read more

Geo: -19.0098, -57.6547One morning, I woke up and decided...it's time to get going on my mission...Don't be such a lazy bastard and let Santa Cruz comfort you...It reminded me of my life in Asia a bit...Very relaxing place to stay...Do you what you want...Do it whenever you want...with whomever...Ok...Corumba...Have you been to border towns with Brazil?...a bit dangerous...a bit (laugh)...Brazil with Bolivia is another story...What do you think where the majority of hardcore drugs enter into Brazil...Of course...Its' from dirt cheap Bolivia...Corumba is not really a place to linger long...But...Brazilian encounters...Brazil...Hang on...it's Brazil...a friendly place...just befriend whomever you want...all friendly...I actually stayed in a very comfy hotel for a few days...Unfortunately it's all about drugs and I decided to rather leave...Police was bothering eve... read more

South America » Bolivia » Santa Cruz Department » Santa Cruz November 22nd 2013

Geo: -17.7888, -63.1974...I remember, a coup;e years back...Santa Cruz had been labeled "the cheapest cost-of-living-city on earth"...Interesting indeed, I had planned to arrive here in 2008...I didn't make it, why? Not sure...Back than I was planning to move to Latin America on a more permanent basis and was looking for a place to open up my tent...Anyway...I made it now...What can I say...A few words...A friendly place...cheap indeed...Comfy place to stay...Wonderful food, not the typical cuisine you may be used to in the Andes...We are not in the Andes...we are in the tropical rain forest and everything good and bad that comes with it...Short and precise to the point...I did like my stay here...This time I was on a mission...Getting to Santiago de Chile... Geo: 23.1168, -82.3886landed with my favorite no-frill flight...Jetairfly from Europe is only EUR 149 to Varadero...There we go...arrival in Varadero was smooth...I booked ahead with a Cuban friend of mine in Havana...I wanted to ensure I have the entire apartment to myself right in the center of town...Well, in the center of town it certainly was...The entire apartment to myself...check!So my wonderful time in La Habana can go ahead...Now as I knew that I had the place to myself I can also bring friends home without the secret police watching you...That night I went around the rundown districto Centro...The night ended eventless, I was still tired from the trip and went to sleep. The second day was something else...Funny enough...My headline says "Havana...me encanta"...
