Hi Kris, could you advise on your shenzhen tailor? You've got a real good deal. How would you rate the workmanship. Thanks.

getting involved
It's a lot easier to get involved with the local community when you speak and read the language. I do interact with the people here and love it, but I am still viewed as an foreign outsider--no amount of involvement is going to change that, especially in an area so large.

why not get into the local community?if not,it's big waste of your time in China. To know China at the very basic level, the local resident is the best channel...hope you enjoy yourself in China

Nope
You just need to be American, Australian, Kiwi, or UK nationality and have a university degree. They don't ask where you're born.

I thought CTLC was restricted to short list of western nation native borns and that countries like Taiwan, for example, and HK weren't among them.

I'm so excited for you! The road ahead will prove to be challenging in new ways, I am sure, but full of fun and new adventures also. :) Maybe if I come back to China to visit next year I can come see your new digs!

Congrats
Kris I am so happy for you and feel your pain of applying, applying, applying and hearing nothing back. We are still waiting for that dream job but hopefully in the next 5 weeks something will happen. If not life will go on.

Of course!
I always write about things in the local currency. Besides, 400 USD would cost more than the airlines rip-off fees!

I really enjoyed your China post! It's so nice to be able to hear someone's firsthand account of what's happening there right now, after the earthquake. I know that people have trouble accessing certain websites from there, but my travel blog is looking for photos, stories, etc, to share. If you have the time, and are able to, check it out at dirty-hippies.blogspot.com, or email me at dirtyhippiesblog@gmail.com. Continued fun on your travels! Heather :)
