tee hee
This was actually from a year ago--I found it buried -- it had never published for some reason! But I liked the story enough to publish it late. And the medicine worked great!

Canker Sore
Has the medicine worked? I love to hear that on your 3rd year you still use body language to get things done. I am the queen of body language as learning Chinese just hasn't been my thing. I get discouraged easily when every word I say they repeat and repeat correcting me.

tea
The tea was really good, actually. But I recommend getting a pot and not a cup--the pot will filter our the flowers, but a cup the float all over the top. Since they're small flowers, the literally cover the entire surface. Have you tried the longjing tea yet? That was excellent and local for you.

Yangshou
How was the tea from the osmanthus tree flower? Everyone in Hangzhou is talking about this tea and that it is in full bloom here so we will have a tea party soon with our Chinese English teachers. Bummer about the cave tour.

It's a Dry Heat!
I hope you enjoyed Arizona. We have had a hot muggy monsoon season and our heat has extended way into the fall (this is unusual). I am originally from Minnesota. The sunsets in Arizona are a to die for, a romantics dream! We miss the seasons of Minnesota but, we do enjoy the Arizona winters. I hope you have an opportunity to come back during our winter months. Jarl kubat Arizona Retirement Communities

Enjoy your new bike
Have fun with your bike, it makes life much easier when getting around. I was also back to sweating in the classroom today.

nah
I'd rather think of it as the 2nd anniversary of my 30th birthday. Because at 29 I didn't know I was going to China, but at 30 I was already here. And that's when life got to be the way I like it.

cities left to try and visit
Major cities left include Xian and other smaller cities around Shanghai/Hangzhou. Also want to visit Nanjing. And I should probably see Hunan at some point because it seems like everyone I meet is from Hunan. and I would like to see Dalien because I want to look at N Korea.

What a great letter
I really loved this letter especially. And I know you were a great help and spirit lifter for your mom and dad. The pottery making looked so fun. And it was nice seeing you all. We had hoped to see you on this trip but Ron is working lots at Dillard's covering vacation time for others. Not so next year and we will meet you then. My mom's cousins went to see the great wall of China also. So that really interested me. You are doing such a great job of writing and I race to read your blog each time. Keep on keeping on. Sally

Great Wall
Sounds like a great time on the wall. We have been 2 times but to 2 different sections Badaling and Mutianyu, yours sounds the best by covering 22 towers WOW. And yes their are LOTS of stairs.

More familiar pictures
Some of the furniture on display came from the home of a Chinese gentleman in Beijing. The story was detailed in Peter Hessler's book "Oracle Bones."

Jews in Shanghai
I actually saw a movie about it back when I lived in the US and borrowed from the library frequently. No clue what it was called but it had a lot of information. Bet you can find it when you're home this summer.

it's football
I live outside the US, and outside of the US people call it football, not soccer. :)
