First visit to the Bronx Botanical Garden and certainly not my last. I purposely struck out on my own in this garden, instead of sticking with my tour group. Yes, I admit, this was an escorted tour. I can feel the cringing of my more independent-minded travel friends when I describe tour. I say, don't dismiss it till you try it. The sheer size of this garden reminds me of Longwood Garden. The grounds of this garden contain rock outcroppings, rolling meadows, ponds, the Bronx River and miles of rustic paths winding through the grounds. The Cloisters, situated in beautiful Fort Tyrone Park in Upper Manhattan. The Cloisters is an extension of the Metropolitan Museum of Art devoted to the art of medieval Europe. The Cloisters, opened in 1938, incorporates architectural monuments carefully transported from Europe and reconstructed in a building specifically designed to evoke rather than imitate the monasteries, churches and halls of medieval times. I spent a few hours on Sunday participating in a Spring Cleaning event at Otto's Mini. A great time to meet fellow Mini owners, whose cars are as unique as their owners. "Jack" was washed and waxed until he shimmered. I learned a few new tips and tricks regarding waxing a car, including a novel use of peanut butter oil. Jerry, staff member of Otto's BMW, took me for a ride in a motorcross Mini. I was blown away! 0 to 90 mph in 2 nanoseconds! The car handled like a champ, especially around tight corners! The 2005 Philadelphia Flower Show This year's Central Feature exhibit is titled "America the Beautiful," and showcases great garden ideas from around the country. William Penn had once described Philadelphia as a "green country town". The Pennsylvania Horticultural society founded in 1827 has worked diligently through the years to maintain that important connection of community through horticulture.
