We had an awesome time on Ko Phangan. It helped that we had pre-booked a really nice bungalow right near the action, but far enough away not to be kept up by the noise... so we thought. We were living nocturnally so we wanted peace in the day to recover. But we were right next to the bar at our resort, which loved to play ridiculously loud, old cheesy music all day. Buckets were everywhere, but we didn't seem to mind. Vodka and Redbull buckets became our regular tipple. The first night was awesome, we ended up at a pool party. We really enjoyed jumping in and out of the pool all night and were the last ones to leave at about 6.30am! The Full Moon Party was pretty much the same as the other nights ... read more

We went to Koh Tao to do our Open Water Diving Certificate, as it's the cheapest place in the world to do it. To get to Koh Tao we took an overnight ferry. We weren't expecting luxury but you can see from the picture it was a bit crampt. There was 24 people laid out on slabs trying to sleep, on an old fishermans boat which also had a digger onboard. Plus the sea was really choppy! Koh Tao's not the sort of place that has a great night life, in fact it was a tad dull after dark, which was ok for us as we were there only to scuba dive and needed to stay sober. The first day of our course was spent watching videos and learning all the theory, which felt a bit ... read more

We hadn't originally planned to go to Krabi but we arranged to meet up with some friends that we met jungle trekking. And we're so glad we did. Ton Sai was one of favourite places. It's a really remote bay in Krabi only accessable by boat, thats popular with rock climbers. Its one of ther best places in the world to climb. The beach bars were amazing, we met loads of travellers from all over the world. Later on in the evening at one bar there was a game of limbo with fire. It was so relaxing, we have been telling all the travellers we meet to go there.... read more

We took a boat over to Koh Phi Phi Island, but unfortunately only stayed here one night as we wanted to allow time later to do our open water scuba diving certificate. And we decided to stay an extra night in Patong instead as the lonely Planet reckoned Phi Phi was super expensive. But we did manage to find somewhere cheap, even if it was simply four bamboo walls, a mattress on the floor made of hay, with a rickety old fan that chased hot air round the room. Phi Phi was beautiful, the beach had soft white sand and crsytal clear water. But it did start to rain not long after we'd settled on the beach! We went to see the Tsunami memorial which was touching. We had an awesome night out at the Hippie ... read more

We flew from Chiang Mai to Phuket and stayed in Patong for a few nights. This is supposed to be the area with the best nightlife. However most of the bars turned out to be girlie bars where you can buy a thai woman for the night for the equivalent of 7pound 50! We lost count of the number of times we were asked if we wanted to see a 'pingpong' show! We stayed fairly close to the action in an area where there was obvious damage to buildings left by the Tsunami. We looked for sirens and signs that are supposedly there to warn people should it happen again. All we could find was useless signs saying 'Tsunami evacuation route' pointing at things like one storey builings! Bloody useless ey! We had a good time ... read more

We went up to Chang Mai to go jungle trekking for two days. Set off in a mini truck with twelve off us crammed in the back. Quite a cool group of people from all over the world, not all of whom could speak English. Polly was group translator for the Spanish. The trek started with a 3 hour hike up a steep mountain in the heat of the day. They didn't mention when we booked it that it was ALL uphill! We stayed overnight with hill tribes, who live miles away from any civilisation. Sat round the camp fire with a crazy thai guy, his guitar and some sticks for entertainment! We met a couple of nice girls from Oz and NZ who we might meet up with when we're over that side of the ... read more

November 12th 2007

On the way up to Chiang Mai we stopped off for the day at Lopburi to see the monkeys. Not a happening place, the monkeys were the only real thing of interest. They are everywhere and rule the town. We put our bottle of water down for a minute and one of them ran off with it, opened it up and poured it everywhere. There was really not much to do in the evening in this place, no bars, cafes, just market stalls selling food. So we chose to spend the evening with a few tinnies at the train station waiting for the overnight sleeper train to Chiang Mai. We kept ourselves amused with stray dogs, a drunk thai man and a station master who asked to see our ticket well over ten times just so ... read more

Cambodia was an experience; went off to see Ankor Wat, loads and loads of temples in the jungle. To get there is a ten hour bus ride from bangkok. They have no roads into Cambodia, just dirt tracks. So as you can imagine it was a pretty bumpy ride, for hours and hours! Unfortunately our malaria tablets made Flick really ill so it wasn't as enjoyable as it could have been. After being driven from temple to temple via tuk tuk in the heat we were pretty templed out! So we decided to have a nap on one of them. Our tuk tuk driver was a bit confused when we spent over an hour at this one temple and only up to 15mins at each of the others. We just made out we really enjoyed that ... read more

November 3rd 2007

Hey everyone. We're in Bangkok now, it's proper hot and it smells! Been here three days and already feeling the effects of dodgy food and drink! The first night we stayed at the 'best' hotel on Khao San Road and woke up at 3am to the sound of cockroaches scuttling around. Had a few drinks in Patpong last night, it was pretty nasty seeing all the beautiful thai women all over dirty, fat, old english men. Moving on to Cambodia tomorrow, going on a 10hour coach journery to Siemreap to see Ankor Wat. Quite keen to move away for the touristy, hectic, noisyness there is here. We're off out for dinner at the revolving restaurant tonight. Hope it's not gunna spin too fast, flick's on the brink of throwing up as it is. Both feeling very ... read more
