little girl, huge bag.

little girl, huge bag.

What can I say...I'm a little girl with a huge bag. My motto is take everything as long as you can carry it. My bag was 17 kilos but I managed to haul it onto buses, boats, ferries, trains, planes, and 4 flights of stairs. My bag is a duffle bag with wheels and is also a backpack....so handy.
My goal is to find the most gorgeous beaches with a ton of shells. I will share where I've been, eaten, wore, and most importantly what I bought.

Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at 8:09pm Hola, bonjour, hey everyone! Finally settling in to life here in vancouver. Things are so different! Kilometers, celsius, loonies, and toonies are some new things that I'm learning about. And yes, people say "eh" a ton. I already say "for sure" but mine is more valley girl ... read more

1/10 Right now I'm on the plane waiting for take off from Bangkok to Phuket. Got a shuttle for 130 baht which was actually a cab w/2 other girls. It only took a 1/2 hour and the meter came up to 225 baht, we already paid, but it was interesting to see how much it really costs. The standard rate is 500 baht, but at 5am do you really need to charge those prices? Anyhow money saved yay. Mini Van HELL- So when I bought my shuttle ticket the woman did not write on there that I needed to go to a different pier. I was going to the Bang Rong Pier...not the main pier that takes you to phi phi island. Piss me off. The driver said no problem and said he'd take me there ... read more

1/4 Had a long travel day. It was 4 hours to the border, the switched mini buses, and then another 4 hours into thailand. Just took some motion sickness pills and xanax to sleep the whole way. We are now in Nakhon Si Thammarat...it's really just a local town. They don't get many westerners out here. Went to the shadow puppet show and bought a Ganesh puppet. It was actually pretty interesting. All the puppets are made out of raw hide. Someone actually is playing live music in the background...everything is done by hand. Had some delicious street vendor food. Yummy real pad thai. We only stayed here for 1 night. There really is not much to do here...it was just a stopover. 1/5 Woke up early to grab breakfast with our guide (I wanted to ... read more

1/2 First day in Penang was nothing major...just checked in and then wondered around. 1/3 Today my roomie and I went w/our tour leader for sunday morning dim sum! It was delish! It was totally authentic in our restaurant. Dishes clanking, unknown languages, and steaming food whizzing by you. After that we did a city tour of the historical sites and saw a few more temples. Blah....only good thing that came out of it was finding some cute bracelets at the temple. It's red thread knotted with a piece of jade. No one has comment on how cute it is because it isn't, but I heart it. I have a penchant for red thread bracelets with jade....I have a bazillion already, but this one i liked because for 5 ringgit the proceeds go back to the ... read more

12/31 New Year's Eve homestay style.....but before that, I need to recap what happened earlier in the day. Woke up early (we're early risers!) and we braved the train again to zip through KLCC 1 last time. We needed to buy a "surprise NYE present" for a gift exchange since we will not be woohoo'ing it up in a bar, there really is no where to go and we can't drink at the homestay. The gift had to be 10 ringitt or less. I got crafty and picked things that I thought would be useful whilst traveling. Thanks to Watson's I bought....a face mask (5R), wet wipes 1.50R, tissue .30R, and mentos 2 for 2.60R. I also loaded up on some supplies for myself...I heart Watson's and Boots! Took 1 last stroll in chinatown for some ... read more

Asia » Malaysia » Kuala Lumpur December 29th 2009

12/29 Got up early this morning to get on the bus to kuala lumpur. Did a 1/2 day city tour. Saw a buddhist temple, a mosque (), the Royal Sengalor pewter factory (only worth it for a photo op with the worlds tallest pewter beer mug), Mosque (we had to wear purple robes so we covered head to toe) and then the Batu Caves. The Batu Caves were a big disappointment. It was dirty and not well kept for a holy area. There are monkeys everywhere and it doesn't help when the groundskeepers throw trash on the ground to encourage them. Not worth climbing up the stairs to glance at trash. The monkeys pretty much stalk the visitors walking up (especially if you have food or a water bottle). After the tour we did some photo ... read more

12/28 Woke up at 5:45am to the sounds of the mosque through my earplugs. Ate my free breakfast (still can't get used to the "sausages" that are really hotdogs)" and we're now en route to the Malaysia/Singapore border. Just went through customs...it doesn't seem like they really care who comes through their borders. There really wasn't much security there. Now it's time to sit on a bus for the next 4 hours weeeee! It seems like it takes forever to get anywhere because we have to stop at every toll both on the freeway...they should have fastpasses here! Just doing some sightseeing from the bus windows....there are a ton of palm trees in Malaysia. 1st casualty of the trip...I just lost my book. I forgot it on the bus. I really didn't like it much anyway- ... read more

12/26 For the first time on our trip, my roomie was up earlier than me. She took off early for a day tour since she was staying in bangkok for a few days. We said goodbye and then I packed up the rest of my things then headed to BKK. I felt like a seasoned pro going to the airport, like I knew where I was going! Flight to Singapore was good on Air Asia. So weird...Air Asia planes have misters in them...not sure what they are for. I thought it was smoke at first! Right now I'm at my hotel waiting for my room. A little peeved because it's 3:30pm. It's raining ugh! Pouring buckets. There are other people from the tour already here...I hope the are fun! Walked around Little India and ate at ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Ao Nang December 25th 2009

12/18 Woke this morning and took a no choice cold shower. We left Khao Sok and are now in Ao Nang Beach/Krabi. Spent the afternoon just walking around and hit the beach for a bit. I finally got around to calling the airline to change my flight...the earliest I can come home is jan 14...that gives me 3 nights at the end of the trip to figure something out. Thinking of maybe going to cambodia or chiang mai...not sure but would want to do some type of tour group and not be by myself. Right now I'm at the homestay. It's not too bad...pretty basic, clean, and the food was REALLY GOOD! We took a walk down to the family's catfish farm and watched them do a rubber tree tapping. 12/14 Woke up on the train and I got bit on my hands and elbow...dammit, I forgot to reapply my repellant. I guess the vitamin B1 pills really don't work either. I think it might have been a spider. After we got off the train we took a bus and then a boat ride to Chieow Laan Lake in Khao Sok. We're staying in bamboo raft houses right on the water. You have to be careful where you step or you'll fall through! It's pretty basic accommodations...bring a ton of hand sanitizer and toilet paper! The walkways are pretty dodgy and rickety. Bring a flashlight too! We are pretty much marooned here, cannot go walking around to explore since we are pretty much on a pier. All you can do is swim, kayak, or read. Swimming ... read more
