Got up early this morning to get on the bus to kuala lumpur. Did a 1/2 day city tour. Saw a buddhist temple, a mosque (), the Royal Sengalor pewter factory (only worth it for a photo op with the worlds tallest pewter beer mug), Mosque (we had to wear purple robes so we covered head to toe) and then the Batu Caves. The Batu Caves were a big disappointment. It was dirty and not well kept for a holy area. There are monkeys everywhere and it doesn't help when the groundskeepers throw trash on the ground to encourage them. Not worth climbing up the stairs to glance at trash. The monkeys pretty much stalk the visitors walking up (especially if you have food or a water bottle). After the tour we did some photo ops at the KL twin towers...weeeee...
The street markets have rows and rows of knock of shoes, handbags, and watches. Really, nothing special...there is nothing that I would buy here. I'm not getting a sense of what "malaysia" is like because all of our hotels are in Chinatown or Little India. I really don't like this place so far.

Today is our free
day. My roommate and I got up early and went to the Forest institute FRIM.
This was the highlight of my trip to south east asia. I really was not impress with Kuala Lumpur until we found the FRIM in the Lonely Planet guide. We got a little lost on the trains (oops) but you get off on KL Sentral and then take a 10 minute cab ride. We paid 10 ringgit for the canopy ticket and made our way up into the rainforest. It's a beautiful walk, can be steep at times, but well worth the effort. The canopy walk was AMAZING! I'm so glad that we came here to experience it. If you ignore the fact that you're being supported by a covered ladder and some netting then you'll be fine. The weather super muggy and hot. I was glad that I loaded up on DEET because there were a lot of mosquitos out. When you come back down from the hike get a 20 minute fish foot spa treatment for only 2 ringgit...it's right where you buy your ticket for the canopy walk. There are only a few people a day that do it and it's in
a natural setting. The fish are in a pond. It was a little freaky at first, but it was worth the new experience and it was less than 1 USD. We saw spas in the city charging up to 35 ringgit...that would be a waste! The trip back to our hotel was much easier and we didn't get lost. For dinner we met up with our guide to so we could check out the local food. Just went around the corner to a street vendor and had some satay skewers. All this food and salt...I swear I'm expanding!....but it was all so delicious!
