On the last day of the trip, some of us got up early to have another "feel" for the early morning market, but I was not one of those. Getting up early for merit making is enough for this trip :p .... When I woke up and went out to have breakfast they had not arrived back yet. However, after they arrived we enjoyed what they talked about and what they bought for us as well. This morning we went to visit one temple: Wat Prabhat Tai - if I'm not mistaken. ... The temple is near our hotel, and also on the way to a village where we intended to go in the program. ... The way that leads us to look at the "Prabhat" or Buddha's footprint, is a little dangerous.... at least for ... read more

Today we got up rather early, like 5:00 a.m. ... which was a little too early for a holiday. But with the traditional 'must-do' in Luangprabang, we'd really like to experience it: giving sticky rice to monks as merit making. At six-ish we finally started off from the hotel. When we arrived at the side of the road it was still dark. Our group located as the very first group of merit makers that the monks would be given rice.... we even had a "grandma" of our own :D... She was so cute, very very local, and naive. She sat with us and made a nice chat while we were there. The scene of monks walking past us is amazing - calm and fulfilling -- despite the fact that we were so busy picking up sticky ... read more

Day 2 - Friday 11 January 2008 The first morning in Luangprabang did not begin too early, as we agreed that this kind of trip is actually meant for relaxation from hard work we have had through all the past year - and that is why we should be able to enjoy a little more time in bed. As consultants, there are times (several for most of us) to stay up too late in the night, or even to stay over night with no sleep, in order to finish the work as deadline is knocking at our door. However, after I got dressed and opened the door, I felt the immediate coldness outside. I put on a scarf and hurried down to have breakfast. The place where we had breakfast is at a building located ... read more

Once we landed, I recognized so many innocent and sincere things.... starting with Lao language which is somewhat similar to Thai language but there are certain differences, both in terms of alphabets and the forms of vowels. Lao language is cute, I would say!!! It's difficult to describe in English, but for Thai people who read this I think you will understand. There were 2 Immigration lines, and the one for Thai people was very short... just 10 people or so.... The airport is somewhat like Phitsanulok airport 30 years ago... old, but cute and charming in its own way :) We hired a tour guide who can speak English for our group, since we started contacting a travel agent in BKK. The guide is a lovely young lady whose name is "Tuly", and she called ... read more

As part of the company's annual outing, this year somebody decided we would go to Luangprabang. I have a feeling that I was one of perhaps the few among us that mentioned about this town, but at that time I didn't think of going with a big group --- I was thinking about going with P'Toy. I heard of Luangprabang as a UNESCO World Heritage..... and its peaceful atmosphere. So, now I could see it for myself. We started off from Bangkok on January 10, 2008 - with a BKK Airways flight PG943 arriving there around 13:30. The story I wrote here will start from then, though the blog date is later than the actual travel period. ... read more
