No pictures with this one, just a goodbye. 6 months - Half a year, has gone by since I got on that plane at LAX and landed in Paris on a rainy January night. Tomorrow morning, I'll wake up while it's still dark, hauling one suitcase full of clothes and comics, the other full of a few thousand drawings, back to the airport, and leave France. I don't like how quickly things become memories- already I'm reminiscing, looking back on the me of january, febuary, march. I know that soon I'll be in California, looking back on the me that was sitting at a computer lab in the school writing this, and that makes me a little sad. It feels like the friendships I've made here were just starting to really develop into somehthing deep, and ... read more

I'm still alive! And still in France. Since the knowledge that all of my classmates are in the thick summer right now, things have felt diffrent. Another big change was getting settled in a new apartment. My trusty home of 317 Vaugirard was cleaned out and abanoned, and I hauled all my stuff to an apartment on the outer edge of southern Paris. Bertrand, the exchange student who went to Calarts has retured to Gobelins with a gorgeous film and familiar stories. In a few days my flatmate will move in, a 50 year old Chinese fellow named Ming. I don't have telephone, internet, or a mailbox, and the metro station is a fair walk away. All of these changes mark the last leg of my France stay and give life totally diffrent flavor. I spent ... read more

I'm back at school after another two week break- It seems there are breaks and holidays constantally in France! The first week was spent finally getting to see my Mom, and having a wonderful time being a tourist again with her in the south of france. Highly reccomended is the old rennisance areas of Lyon, and a relaxing bike ride along the coastline of Nice. The second week was animation as usual in the abandoned school. There's a little more than a month and a half left of my stay here. School at CalArts is ending, but the Gobelins semester dosen't end until June 30th. In the beginning of June is the Annecy animation festival, which the entire department heads down to for a week of film screenings, job-hunting and celebrating a year's worth of hard ... read more

Hello world. Sorry I haven't updated in awhile. It's that time of the year where all other concerns fall aside and I save all my energy for drawing lots and lots of near identical pictures. Early this month saw a group of CalArtians invade Paris, it was great to see some familiar faces and share the fun spots that I've found in the city. It also completley wore me out. :) April weather has been totally unpredictable, with blazing sunshiney days back-to-back with can't-go-outside-it's so-chilly. But it always starts with the morning clouds in a color I'll forever identify as Paris grey, and if they lift or not is up to chance. Sorry so tired... Animation is like trying to smash down a huge granite wall using a nerf bat. I put a few small scenes ... read more

March is wrapping up, so here's s note from the Paris front. It seems like I have been here a very long time. I've been here long enough to have memories about arriving, my first month, my first feelings here. It's strange to have memories about a place you haven't left yet. So, going on over 3 months, things are starting to look up. This weekend Spring hit Paris without warning, pouring tanning-strength sunlight on the frowning city. Immedietly everyone cheered up, cafes moved all their tables outdoors and picnic baskets were packed at warp speed. I couldn't get enough of just strolling along the river with the sun on my face. It's raining again today, but people seem more hopeful now that they've gotten a taste of the season ahead. The film goes as always, ... read more

As promised, it's the fantastic Ireland Trip Report! I was nervous about this whole thing, jumping on a plane to a random contry you know not a soul in, hoping you've got a place to sleep, enough money in budget, and luck will bump you into some friendly faces. But wow- Now that I've done it, I can't wait to go everywhere else. One of the biggest eye openers for me was that there is a whole travel culture, people who just hop from place to place learning and exploring and making friends, for years at a time. I met people my age who have already been through most of asia, india, and europe. It's not as hard or scary as it looks to be, and you don't have to be rich or wait till you ... read more

Hey! Well, it's been awhile since I last updated, and another couple of weeks have blurred by. Snow hit the city hard last weekend, and even though the skies are blue now, the temprature is -2 to -6 degrees C. Power went out at the school on monday, so students were locked out for the rest of the week while they fixed electricity stuff. For me this ment a very long week of wandering, museums, doodling, and avoiding being outside in the frozen city as much as possibile. Highlights were the Rodin sculpture museum, the Marais and Bastielle areas at night, and a swingin underground jazz club with new american friends Today we've been let back into the building, so I'm trying to get as much animation done today before catching a flight to Ireland tomorrow! ... read more

Just some pictures from the weekend, and a squeak to say I'm still alive. Tomorrow will mark exactally one month on this side of the pond. I got to enjoy the company of some other American students this weekend, and the weather was unpredicible and crazy. Every half hour it would change from sun to snow to wind to hail... I still managed to get laundry done, despite nature's wrath. The louvre was huge, so I simply wandered for as long as I could. I'll devote more time to specific parts later, when I have the energy. But I took pictures now and then, so enjoy p.s - don't forget to sign your comments p.p.s - don't forget to come visit me. ~kelly... read more

Wuhh, I'm tired. I don't have a great reason for being tired, except that I might subconsiously be on constant high-alert-survival-mode and not know it. This week I revised some character designs, animated one scene sucsessfully, and trashed numerous attempts at a second scene. Today I was completley burned out on 3/4th walks in perspective, so I found much more instant gratification in making another comic instead. This one has lots of words, but not much of a story. Enjoy! Page one Page two Page three Page four May attempt the Louve this weekend. Definetley will be sleeping. It started raining again. Too tired to write more... Bon weekend! ... read more

21 days in France. Does it seem that long to you? The weeks are a blur, and I mark the weekends with pictures, each one a mini vacation. I don't work on the weekends (yet.) I am used to the french keyboards now, and typing this entry on my ibook is confusing. On satudray I completed my Parisian transformation by buying a long black coat, a book to read on the metro, and entrance into a paris nightclub. Dancing ahoy. Also, I've decided English is a beautiful and underrated language. I love hearing it. This sunday I was rewarded by further exploration of le Marias and the latin quarter. The Picasso museum was just the right size, and I stumbled upon it on a free entrance day. Pictures ahoy. At school, film stuff really got rolling. ... read more
