We departed from Samara yesterday, Tuesday, and arrived in Rincon de la Vieja which means the corner of the old woman. The story is a princess ran away from home and lived at the volcano here. There are a lot of natural hot springs and water so she became a healer and the mountain was her "corner." We went on a short hike and saw some of the boiling mud and the thermal springs which was great. Then we went in a hot spring in the afternoon. Later they made us a traditional costa rican dinner with meat from the ranch we are staying at. They had pasta and veggies for me. It was delicious and there were two cowboys playing music and they were very fun. This morning I got up and ran to a ... read more

HOLA!! i cannot believe how fast my two weeks on project just flew by. I am having an incredible time. Here is the low down on my project: there were 16 of us, and two project leaders Aundrey and Christine who are married and 27 and 28. We stayed a family´s property in cabins. There were 10 and 6 in two cabins, but did not spend anytime in there other than sleeping so that worked out fine. everything was outdoors, the kitchen was in a nice open area where we all ate and hung out. Rice and beans everyday yet again! But i cant complain because the food was good. There was also a little shop around the corner were we went to get our chocolate fix. We worked for 8 days and had 3 free ... read more

HOLA! this week has gone by so fast. I cannot believe how much more confident I feel about my spanish after just one week of classes, this is for sure the best way to learn a foriegn language. I graduated yesterday from the intermediate class and I feel like I learned so much. The classes were four hours a day but they went by so fast and my teacher was very nice. There were only five people in my class so there was lots of interaction and talking en espanol. It is sad because all of the people I have met this week are headed off to different projects and I do not know if I will see them again or not. It is almost 7 now and we are going to head to Puerto Jimenz ... read more

I have arrived in Costa Rica. I am staying in a home with one other girl named Jen who is a 24 year old grad students getting her masters in teaching. We have been getting along super well....people on the tour have started calling her mama jen because she is such a sweet heart and always looking out for everyone. There is so much to say and I do not even know what to highlight. The climate here is awesome! It is warm and sunny in the morning and then there are tropical storms in the afternoon. The rain is warm though so usually we go on walks because we have the afternoons free. There are so many cool people in the program ranging from 19 to 25 and from all parts of the US.
