things i love about denmark - the nightlife. clubs are open until 6am every single day of the week! - Copenhagen - SUDOKO TOILET PAPER! - the bread - how when the fridge is full, everyone just puts things outside to keep them cold - the fashion. it is seriously cool! - yoggi - urban outfitters - frikadeller - how close it is to other countries - the concerts (ROSKILDE!) - the CPH library with an indoor grass area. amazing! - the good sense of humour of the danish people - Christiania - how every single danish person i try to speak danish to laughs at me. i'm not that bad at it am i?! - the snow! - how small it is. it's so much easier to see someone on the other side of the ... read more

After a normal start and language school til 130pm, my day took a radical turn to become THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE, or since i've been in denmark at least! I left language school and went for a walk around Copenhagen as usual, but for the first time STOPPED MYSELF BUYING SOME CLOTHES. Yes, it was hard, but I have found the self control! I was so proud of myself i decided to go and get a hot chocolate from macca's, but on the way I had to get my bank card from the bank as it got swallowed on friday. I successfully retrieved my card, then went to fulfill my hot chocolate craving. When i got to mcdonalds, there was a really cute boy behind the counter. I asked him if he spoke english, ... read more

I realised today that it's been exactly one month since I arrived in Denmark. Argh! I can't believe how quickly it's gone. I feel like I've only just got here, but then again it also feels like I've been here for a lifetime. The people I've met so far are amazing, including my host family who are gorgeous; they are so polite and kind. The rotary kids are fantastic; so easy to get along with and we have a lot in common. The Danish people I've met are generally easy-going and open, a lot like Australians. They are all so skinny though! I don't know how they stay in shape though, they eat so much food, especially carbs! I went clubbing on friday for the first time and stayed at Elisa's house. Her host mum is ... read more

i just got back from intro camp, so thought i should tell you how it was! the week was, in one word, amazing. it was so so good to meet other exchange students who are in the same position as me and it was crazy how quickly you become friends with people. everyone is so open to meeting people on exchange, and it makes it very easy to find people you 'click' with. i experienced this alot on camp, meeting other exchangies mainly from australia and new zealand (but also some from brasil, argentina and south africa) who by the end of the week, i felt like id known for years. a typical day on the camp would involve breakfast between 8am and 830am (or for people like me, rocking up to brekkie at 8.28), before ... read more

Warning: This joint blog contains an obscene number of personal jokes and sexual connotations. Parental guidance is recommended for persons under 15 years of age. Time for an update! Kate and Elisa are on intro camp this week, just chilling and junk. They got to Aarhus yesterday (Sunday) via train from Copenhagen. There, they met up with their Perth buddy Adam ‘the lad’ Spight. Around fifty other exchange students (mostly from Australia and Brazil) are also at the camp. Every day this week they will have 6 hours of Danish lessons. The rest of the time is spent hanging with the bitches in the lad pad and re-enacting High School Musical. Yesterday they had a tour of the school, as well as introductory assemblies. After dinner they enjoyed a sing-along in the lounge with Levi playing ... read more

WOW! WHAT A WEEK :) sorry to everyone whos been emailing/facebooking/myspacing me and i havent got back to them- ive been in a beautiful town called Villars, in the middle of the Swiss Alpes. I went to Villars with my host family, as they own an apartment there and go skiing a few times a year. It was my first time skiing, and it was sooo sick! I fully pwned it haha. but seriously! apart from a few massive stacks, i managed to mostly keep my feet and even went down a big mountain on the last day- the view was seriously AMAZING. i felt like i was in the middle of the the Lion, the WItch and the Wardrobe haha! Villars on the whole was beautiful. It's a small town- a bit bigger than the ... read more

Since I've been in Denmark, there have been several things which make me laugh every time I see them. 1. The word "SLUT" written in every second shop window. No- I'm not living in the red light district- in danish, "slut" means "finish", and it refers to the finishing of the sales, or "udsalg". doesn't stop me laughing at it everytime though haha! 2. The legal age for drinking is 16, yet the legal age for smoking is 18! Weird? i think so. 3. You'd think that being like -81720198012801 degrees, noone would ever eat or drink anything that isnt hot as. well, no. i dont think ive ever been anywhere that eats as much as icecream as they do here! 4. this isnt something funny about denmark, but more about my lack of being able ... read more

DENMARK 2009 Thursday 29/01/09 I arrived in Denmark on Sunday. Since arriving, I have travelled across the country to Jutland, been to school, attended a Rotary meeting, tasted traditional Danish food such as Ponzi (a sausage bought from a street stall which is eaten with toasted bread- note the sausage doesn’t go inside the bread), and been shopping among other things. The school I am attending is Ordrup Gymnasium and is an old but pretty school. The students are friendly but it is an effort for them to speak English and because I can’t speak Danish yet, I don’t participate in most conversations at school. Subsequently, school is really boring and I still haven’t lasted a whole day, instead leaving at lunchtime and other breaks to go home and sleep (I’m still a bit jetlagged). The ... read more
