So i leave Chiang Mai, Thailand. I decide to take the 2 day slow boat to Luang Prabang- from the Thailand border at Chaing Khong!. We travel for 6 hours on a bus to the Thai-Laos border and spend the night waiting for the boat the next morning. We stay in probably the smallest, quietest town i have seen on my travels. We somehow find a place to get a few drinks and we are the only Farang/Westerners in the place. They had a live rock band that was dressed all punk with spiked hair, makeup, the works. But they played really cheesey Thai-pop songs. Terrible, but really entertaining. The next morning we go to the Immigration office to get our Laos visas. Then cross the Mekong and wait in Laos for 2 hours for the ... read more

I get the night train from the capital of Laos- Vientienne back to Bangkok with an american guy I travelled with in Laos! We arrive real early in the morning around 6am, completely knackered. We get a tuck tuck and head for Ko san Road! Just off Ko san we find a cheap guesthouse, pretty basic but cheap like 2 pound each a night! I don't have my fone so its real hard to try and get in touch with Judgey! Eventually we bump into each other on Ko san Road around midday! Then I bump into 2 swedish girls I met earlier in the trip! We go on a boat trip down the river just say we did some sight seeing in bangkok! To tell you the truth it was rubbish! Nothing much to see ... read more

Travelled south to Vang Vieng, set out in the limestone mountains in a beautiful valley by the Nam Song river. Vang Vieng is quite a surreal place - absolutely stunning scenery, and in the middle of it, just one road planted there for travellers, full of guesthouses and 'tv bars', most equipped with bed-tables for slobbing around! Is quite the backpackers haven. Probably one of the most beautiful places in the world. It has a huge river that cuts the town off and a backdrop off gorgeous mountains. It's crazy, but at the bars, on their menus, they have mushroom shakes, weed(bags or single joints) and opium(in tea or a pipe). It's highly illegal, but it's still on the menu. If you are caught with even half a joint in Laos, it's a on the spot ... read more

We took a tax for 25 minutes, then a long boat for another 15 to get to this waterfall. The waterfall is just in the forest, with seperate levels, little pools of freezing water which are deep enough to dive into and swim. ... read more

Got the night bus from Bangkok to Chaing Mai! Took like 13 hrs, long journey but at least the bus had air com! Got convinced to go to a hostel called Nice Place 2! Turned out to be a good decision, net some cool people there and the trekking was really good. I met two Irish lads on the bus, called Johnny and V. Sharing a room with them so working out quite cheap. Didnt do much the first day! Just had a look around the town. It is a world away from Bangkok! Really laid back and you don't feel your getting sold something evry five seconds! Went on the trek on the 2nd day in Chaing mai. There was 12 of us in the group and we were really lucky because everyone got on ... read more

November 10th 2006

I arrived into bangkok on 9th November! As I was walking through the airport terminal I just thought, What have I done?! I was in the strangest place on earth and didnt know anyone. When I got through passport control I went to get my bags and met a couple of Irish lads, asked them to share a taxi to Ko san Road and off we went! As soon as you left the airport terminal the hassle started! Taxi! Taxi! being shouted from every direction! I followed the lonely planet advice and went to the "official desk" but we still gt ripped off big time! For my first few days in Bangkok and think i must have had an invisable tattoo on my forehead saying "I like being overcharged"! When we got to Ko san Road, ... read more
