Malaysia Asia By jessicamentz June 9th 2007Short of time, so a quickie here... Although I now you guys enjoy the photos more than the essays anyway! :) Malaysia is a country of such diversity. From the thriving metropolis of KL, to the cool beauty of the Cameron Highlands, and back again to the stunning tropical beaches of the Pehetian Islands. Wow, so much in such a short time, some times I can't quite believe it. Enjoy the pics and let me know how you are and what you think of the blog. Love Jess ... read more

Singapore Asia » Singapore By jessicamentz June 9th 2007 Singapore, a city somehow so different from the rest of South East Asia. These guys get the cleanest city award, hands down. Obsessive rules and regulations aside the people are so lovely here. Locals just to your assistance the minute you even appear to be lost. They don't just point you in the right direction, they take you by the hand to the right bus stop! Had a super busy few days here. Lots of window shopping (VV snazz shops, out of our budget!), eating and sight seeing. From Orchard Road, to Little India and China town, this city feels like a few countries rolled into one! Enjoy the pics. Love Jess ... read more

We started off in Kuta Beach, Bali. A crazy, swarming place. Just totes everywhere trying to sell you everything from a massage to a snorkeling trip to a simple pineapple. Its just go go go... We left the madness behind (best to leave the shopping till the end :) and where off to Ubud. A artistic place inland by about 3 hours. One of the highlights was a visit to the monkey sanctuary. A huge series of ancient temples in a jungle setting, swarming with monkeys. Don't think I have ever seen so many in my life! Lets just say we got a little trigger happy that day. Went walking through working rice paddy's and it was good to get a little of the super touristy main road and see the real people at work. ... read more

Indonesia... The land of beaches, sunsets, snorkelling and pineapple pancakes! The Gili Islands are three tiny jewels off the West coast of Lombok, which is the next Island over from Bali in Indonesia. After a 6 hour ferry ride, with blaring Indo-pop and sub-zero aircon, a rather hairy minibus ride through Lombok, and another small boat ride, we made it to Gili Air. Ended up staying at the “party bungalows” of the island, which consisted of just us two foreigners and a whole bunch of chilled out locals! Awesome sunsets set to a reggae beat and a Bintang (the local brew). Next off to Gili Meno in search of turtles. We were rewarded on our very first snorkel with two, extremely large and old turtles! We both couldn’t stop grinning. Tom laughed so much his ... read more

The end of New Zealand Australasia » New Zealand » North Island By jessicamentz April 19th 2007 New Zealand the land of activites! So much fun but pretty harsh on the travelfunds.... Glad to be off to South East Asia again soon - nice and cheap! The way we like it :) Besides the AMAZING skydiving, we got up to some over crazy activites. Went Zorbing in Rotarua. Whisch is essentially rolling down a big hill in a giant plastic ball! So fun. Slosh around inside with water. I think I need to bring this to SA. Kaikoura was really pretty and home to giant pods of dusky dolphins. Went swimming with about 500 of them!! So great to interact with the wild ones. Als... read more

Upon arrival, New Zealand didn't seem to like us very much! We were greeted at the airport by an interrogation and then Tom unfortunately got to grips with the rather stict New Zealand attitiude to rules and regulations. He had an apple in his big rucksack which we had both totally forgotten about. After being searched and questioned on his intentions for the said apple, (Tom jokingly and sarcastically, replied hat he intended on eating it of all things) was fined a wopping $200!!! Madness really. We left Christchurch asap in our very own set of wheels! Managed to find a rental car at a crazy low price as it is being sold in Aukland, so we are taking the old boy on his last rental voyage of New Zealand. Went jetboating up a glacier ... read more

Sydney was fabulous. Such a picturesque city, think we took about a hundred pictures of that opera house! Took a ride on the public ferry over to Manly beach for the day, climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge, took in the sights and sounds along Oxford Street. Spent some time with kate and Chonnie, two friends from Whistler days. Shout out to the coolest ladies in Sydney!! Kate took us to a super 14 rugby game, Bulls vs Warratahs. The Saffa team triumphed!! And a night on the town in Sydney with the girls was such fun. We were fortunate enough to spend an evening at Chonnie's holiday place. Stunning sopt up a sea inlet only reachable by boat. A real aussie BBQ was devoured, mostly by Jess and Tom! A great way to end our time ... read more
