A BLOG BY BRETTO Well here we are again at this most sacred time of the year, the hang over capital of the world, you could even call it the mecca for beer drinkers. You guessed it - Oktoberfest, Munich( Munchen). This years run on team consisted of Gunny aka“G doggy dog” (special yell out to you bro hope ya got home safe) and code for the minute “S doggy dog” who stealthily flew in for the weekend and put in a 'stellar' performance, “K1” and “K2” also in code for the moment to protect their identities, Jacqueline, and of course the “captain”, myself. To start the weekend we arrived at lunch time on Saturday after an organised rendezvous at the Tryp Hotel and struggled to find a beer tent that still had its doors open. ... read more

Ok, next stop Berlin. Berlin is a bit out of the way for us which is why it was on our 'maybe we should skip it' list but we were both really glad that we didn't. We made the decision to go to Berlin before Munich as Prague is about half way between anyway. This was the best decision we've made because right know we're down the south of Germany and we're skipping a lot of the centre and the north because we love Bavaria so much (more on that later)! So Berlin - we called the tourist office on the way in and discovered a touring van site right in the centre of Berlin for only 17 euro per night. Because we got in so late we stayed in for the night and got up ... read more

Sorry about the length of some of the last blogs - sometimes we get a bit off track and don't post for over a week and then end up having to put a huge amount onto one post! Hopefully this one will be shorter as we're just getting back on track and we mostly did a lot of walking in Prague because we didn't want to spend any more Crowns than we had left in our pockets, and we had a big night out and basically couldn't move from our campsite the next day! But moving on to Prague. I know we're always saying that we're really looking forward to the next place we're going too, but Prague is definitely in my top 3 (along with Amsterdam in 2 weeks time and Sail Croatia which was ... read more

After finally getting over the worst case of the runs i've had in my life, we made a new plan and headed for Telc in the Moravian area of the Czech Republic. Telc (pronounced Telch) is a very cute little town with a Unesco World Heritage listed old town square and a renaissance style castle. But after taking advantage of the free wifi and free washing in Budapest all morning, we didn't make it to Telc until after 5 so sight seeing was out. Instead we settled in for a couple of local ales that immediately reinforced Bretto's notion that Czech beers are the best in the world! And at only 80p a pint, how could you not love it?! Because we were so excited about how cheap everything was, we decided to go out to ... read more

Ok, so what's next on the trip?? We've now started getting to the whirlwind tour part where we only spend a few days or maybe a week in a country before we move on. It's a shame but we're trying to do a little taster of Europe so we can come back to the places we really love later on in life (if we get jobs when we move back to Oz to pay off this one!). So after 3 nights in Slovenia which we loved, and 2 nights in Austria which we also loved it was off to meet the girls one last time in Budapest. Bretto wanted to go via Lake Balaton, the largest freshwater lake in Europe outside Scandanavia, so we fuelled up, packed up, and started the drive. To be honest, we ... read more

A BLOG BY BRETTO So after a very long and drunken expedition of Croatia and Bosnia we set sail for Slovinia on the whim of a drunken memory of a recommendation from a guy in Dubrovnik (and Kirra, Lauren and Amy)! Through the border we go with the girls perving on the 'hot' customs guy and choruses of "hey jude", changed to "hey norm" being screeched throughout the lush Slovenian countryside. What more could a man ask for i hear you say? Well once you get to Bled you will understand! you get PEACE!!!! QUIET!!!! MAGNIFICENT SCENERY!!! AND did i mention "PEACE"!!!! The change from Croatia was dramatic - from 23 degrees one day to 14 the next, and straight from arid limestone mountains to lush green rolling hills and quaint colourful cottages. Because it ... read more

After having such an amazing time in Croatia, we were so sad to leave but excited to be travelling to Bosnia and seeing something that wasn't actually on our original plan. Norm was still parked in Split eagerly awaiting our return. So up at 6.30am to catch the 8am bus to Mostar. Yuk! Over the 3 hour journey we had to stop 3 times for passport control - Kirra and Lauren left the day before us and said they were stopped 4 times. As we were driving through the town to the bus stop all we could see around us were buildings bombed out and full of bullet holes. Even though the war ended here over 10 years ago, the evidence of violence is still everywhere. This was the most interesting thing about the trip as ... read more

Wow - Croatia! We have had the most amazing time here. It has truly been the highlight of our trip and I am absolutely in love with this beautiful country. I had no idea it would be so amazingly excellent. I wish that we never had to leave but I know I'll never forget how spectacular this part of our journey was. We started in Split after taking the overnight ferry over from Ancona. Split has some great markets and I spent half my day ˝browsing˝ for dresses and sarongs. We stayed at a great campsite (Camp Stobrec) 6km outside of Split and after setting up camp, we drove to the airport to pick up Stef and Jess and Jason who were all flying in from London. The next day was departure day - woohoo!! When ... read more

OK… So this is a very personal blog for me as its definitely one I’ll want to look back on and remember. Before we started on this holiday, I asked mum if she knew any of her relatives in Italy and whether we could meet up with them. As mum left Italy at such a young age, I don’t think she ever had much to do with her extended family, but Nonna has been in constant telephone contact with the family and they mostly still reside in the San Marco in Lamis area. So Nonna made some calls and let the family know when I would be in the area and the rest was left up to me. So all through Italy I practiced my minimal Italian and learnt as many new phrases as I could ... read more

Matera was the next destination and i'm so glad we made it there! After the heat of the last week, the four of us decided to get a cave hotel with air conditioning for the night in Matera and really live it up in the lap of luxury!! Matera is the location of the Passion of the Christ movie directed by Mel Gibson and it really does look magical. We stayed in one of the Sassi areas where everything is built of limestone and all the houses are carved out of the mountain. It was a really special sight to see, especially at night. But best of all, the air conditioning was amazing! We were so appreciative we stayed in for the rest of the afternoon and watched crappy Italian variety TV! We did venture ... read more
