Another long weekend trip, this time it extended into the week as well. We arrived in town on Friday, May 14th and proceeded to walk around the city. On Saturday we rented a car and drove the Great Ocean Road. In the morning we stopped at the Carter/Tucker House by Sean Godsell. After driving through the afternoon we were able to see the 12 apostle rock formation right before/during sunset...what an awesome experience! Sunday was spent back in the city, walking around and enjoying the beautiful weather. It was sloghtly chilly but full sunshine made it much warmer. All of the markets were open on Sunday as well so I spent my time lazyly walking through most of them. That night I was fortunate enough to go to an AFL game. And after watching the sport ... read more

I spent a long weekend in Canberra. It's interesting because most foreigners don't know that the city exists, let alone that it is the capital of Australia. Canberra is a planed city and actually designed by a former American, from Chicago (He has since become an Australian citizen). The new Parliament building sits in the center of the government region and streets radiate out from it creating long axises that extend to monuments and other artifacts in the landscape. The idea of a planned city sounds extremely logical but the city was extremely hard to navigate around for me as a pedestrian. Overall it was a great trip, learning about Australia's government system and heritage. ... read more

Monday, 5 April, 2010 - Excursion to Green Island We started the day bright and early. Again the forecast called for rain but in a stroke of good fortune, we saw the sun! And for a fair share of the day as well. Arriving on the island with jellyfish suits in hand, we were all eager to see what the coral and sea-creatures had in store for us. The water was much shallower than I had anticipated, only maybe three to five feet deep in most places. This close proximity to the sea life was astonishing. After all was said and done, it was a very good day.... read more

3 April, 2010: Fall break came and instead of driving the 5 hours from KU to see family, they were gracious enough to fly the 16 hour/ 2 day excursion to see me. What a funny dimension time is...or maybe I should say spacetime. Either way a new perspective is gained when flying long distances...loose days and gaining days as if they were chips in a poker game. Our first excursion day was spent visiting the rainforest. We took the skyrail rainforest cableway up to Red Peak, Barron Falls and then to the city of Kuranda. As alluded to in the title, it did rain for most (23 hours and 55 minutes) of the day but in the end I guess the rain made the RAINforest experience more realistic. And to be really optimistic we got ... read more
