Finally finally finally I am writing about the end of my tour de France! I have a few minutes before heading off to Lourdes, so I thought I'd be productive for a change. I've been terrible at keeping everyone updated, and for that I am terribly sorry, I'm sure you'll all forgive me when I get home in EIGHT days! Before writing about Tours and the Loire, I thought I'd get you all up to date on Perpignan life lately. Two weeks ago were exams. It was pretty crazy. We had all of our exams on Monday, May 5, and Tuesday, May 6. All of the level 3 exams were on Tuesday, while our level 4 civilization exam was on Monday. From 8 in the morning until noon, we sat on hard wooden chairs trying to ... read more

Alright...almost finished I promise! The second to last stop during my week touring France was Caen, in Normandy. There's really not too much special about Caen except that it is the closest semi-large city to the D-day beaches. Libby and I are both big history buffs so of course, this stop was a no-brainer. We arrived in Caen at 8:30, April 24. Upon arrival we walked outside of the train station, looked at the hotels across the street, and picked one to stay in for the night. After leaving our stuff there, we hurried back to the train station to catch the next train out to Bayeux, the closest city to the American D-day beaches. We got to Bayeux and looked for the bus line that takes tourists out to the beaches. We found out that ... read more

Our second stop on our "tour de France" was Rouen, way up in the north. Really I just wanted to go here to see cathedrale notre dame...the cathedral that Monet painted. It is my favorite series of Monet's. After a day on the train from Nice to Rouen, we arrived around 9 pm, took a taxi to the hotel and pretty much went to sleep. The next morning we woke up and headed out. It was raining...the weather never really cooperated with us the entire vacation. We quickly found the Cathedral and took many many pictures of the outside. I loved it a lot. We went inside when it started raining harder. During WWII, lots of northern French towns were destroyed by bombs. The citizens of Rouen took out the glass from the church's stained glass ... read more

Wow, quite the gap between this post and the last vacation post. Sorry. A lot has been going on lately...most importantly, exams. Our exams were Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday was from 8-12 in the morning and then my oral exam was at 6...I was not a happy camper. All went well though (I hope). We aren't really sure when we'll find out our scores, but next week is the make-up week if you failed or missed an exam, so the scores should be up now. But yeah, back to the point of this entry....Nice. After leaving Italy, we went to Nice in the south of France...this is prime tourist country. It was really frustrating throughout our time here because nobody would speak French to us. All of the shopkeepers and restaurant workers spoke English. Even if ... read more

Here's installment #2 of my last vacation! Libby and I left Rome Monday the 15th for Siena, Italy. The main reason I wanted to visit Siena was because it is the birthplace of my saint, Saint Catherine of Siena. Libby had already visited Siena and loved it, so it was ok with her. Our original plan was to spend one day in Siena and then visit San Gimignano. The directions to our hotel were a bit frustrating. We ended up having to walk about a mile, uphill. When we finally got to the hotel and into our room, we were in no mood to do all of the sightseeing in one day and then quickly see San Gimignano before getting to Florence, so we decided to skip San Gimignano and spend two days in Siena. It ... read more

I'm finally updating! I know you are all very excited. Monday morning, Libby and I got back from our last vacation. We were gone for two weeks, so I will put up many posts...be patient with me. For this vacation we decided to do a little "tour d'Italie et tour de France". Our first destination was Rome, Italy. We left Perpignan around noon, Friday April 11. We had a couple of layovers in Montpelier and Nice before getting on our night train to Rome. We got into Rome around 10 on Saturday the 12th and headed straight to the hostel. It was difficult to find because it wasn't really labeled...I swear we walked past it fifty times. Finally we found it and checked in. Our rooms weren't ready yet, but we left our luggage and headed ... read more

April 4th 2008

Now for the long entry. We spent four days in Munich. It was a great city; full of history, which of course I love. So, as I said at the end of my last entry, Wednesday March 19 we took a train from Füssen to Munich. When we got to Munich, it was snowing of course. It really would not be a vacation without lots of rain and snow. We could not check into our hostel rooms until after 4 pm, so we had a few hours to wander around the city. Basically, we hit up a bookstore for a few hours. We checked into our hostel and watched more MTV and sports for the night. While we were in Munich, Figure Skating World Championships were on, so it was much better than watching a bunch ... read more

Here's installment #2 of my latest vacation! Monday March 17, we took a train from Salzburg to Füssen, Germany. We got to the little town of Füssen. It was raining. We found the tourist information office to find a place to stay. There was a youth hostel, but check-in time was not until five. We had about four hours to do nothing in the rain. Since we were in Budapest, I had wanted to buy some cool European boots. Finally, I did just that. It is a good thing I did too, because it started snowing soon after. When it was time, we went to get rooms. After settling in, we went to a Chinese restaurant. Ordering Chinese food in German is quite difficult. When we got back to the hostel (which by the way, was ... read more

Geesh, I’m slacking! I have been back in Perpignan for four days and I am only now getting my travelblog updated. I guess I have had more important things to do…like putting my pictures on Facebook…haha. Yep, so Monday Libby and I returned from our second vacation. We visited Salzburg in Austria and Fussen and Munich in Germany. The other three girls went to Scotland and Ireland, where there are more Aquinas students. It was a wonderful vacation, completely stress free ;) minus the constant rain and snow. I will probably have to separate the week into three posts. This first one is Salzburg! Friday March 14, Libby and I tool a train to the airport in Girona, Spain (near Barcelona), to catch a Ryan Air flight to Linz, Austria. It was a bit of a ... read more

March 6th 2008

Today was a major turning point in our French lives. Hahaha, its really nothing serious, it just really cracks us up. In order to get the point across well I have to explain some things first. I've been meaning to make a post about my daily/normal/boring French life, because I know you are all so interested. Bear with me on this one, I'm doing this mainly for my mom and little cousins, so the post will be very randomly detailed. First, here's my class schedule. Monday: 1-2 CDL (we sit around on computers learning grammar) 2-4 Ecrit (writing) 4-5 Oral (we usually have to write up a little speech to present) 5-7 Phonetique (a student criticizes our accents) Tuesday: 4-6 Civilisation (the best class ever with Yavanka who calls us her American friends. Its probably impor ... read more
