climbing on rocks while walking along the cliffs Wow, quite the gap between this post and the last vacation post. Sorry. A lot has been going on lately...most importantly, exams. Our exams were Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday was from 8-12 in the morning and then my oral exam was at 6...I was not a happy camper. All went well though (I hope). We aren't really sure when we'll find out our scores, but next week is the make-up week if you failed or missed an exam, so the scores should be up now. But yeah, back to the point of this entry....Nice.
After leaving Italy, we went to Nice in the south of France...this is prime tourist country. It was really frustrating throughout our time here because nobody would speak French to us. All of the shopkeepers and restaurant workers spoke English. Even if it was obvious that our French was better than their English, they spoke English to us. We had another looooong all night train and were not nearly awake when we rolled into Nice. We called the shuttle to the hostel, had breakfast (this was when we ran into one of our non-American, non-Chinese Perpignan friends, Mirhi), and waited hours for our room to be

the Mediterranean and the Nice coast ready. We talked with the program coordinator and mentioned that we were interested in doing the sailing tour they offer. She said that was good, but really they need 8 people to make it worth it and she didn't think there would be 8 people. So that was out, and I was really really really disappointed. But she did mention that scuba diving was a really great time. We thought could be cool (really I was terrified and had many breakdowns throughout the day looking forward to the next day). Finally they told us it would be awhile so we should go into town. It was nice so we changed into shorts and tank tops for the beach. By the time we got down to the beach, it was cloudy and windy. A few minutes later it started to rain. We were near Vieux Nice (old Nice), so we walked around the shops and had lunch. Libby found a bathing suit, I found some really cool reusable bags with sayings in French. We each bought one. Have I told you all that I'll be pretty green when I come home? No worries, it doesn't mean I've turned to the left,

After we couldn't endure the rain any longer, we went back to the hostel to see if our room was ready. It was, so we crashed until dinner. The hostel has amazing, cheap dinners that they cook themselves. I don't remember what I ate, but it was delicious. Libby set the alarm for 7 because we had to leave by 8 to catch the first diving outing that left at 9. For whatever reason, the alarm did not go off and we woke up at 9...oops. Not gonna lie, I was relieved. There was another diving out at 2, so we were going to try to catch that one. At breakfast we ran into Mirhi again and we knew that she was planning to go diving too so we made plans to meet up before heading down. We made our way to the beach and after wandering around the entire port, we found the diving company. We walked inside and he told us he had called the hostel an hour before to tell them that he wasn't taking the boat out because it was too windy. That was our last chance for diving and we missed it. I can tell you that I was the least disappointed of the group. We didn't want to lay out on Nice's rock beach so we started walking to find the sand beach that was nearby. We weren't really sure if we were walking along the right road, but we found a cool path along the sea cliffs. It was an amazing walk, but unfortunately the long way to the beach. About half way there we thought we were going the wrong way, so decided to not continue to the beach (we found out later we were going the right way, it just would have taken longer). It was a beautiful walk anyway. We went back to the hostel for dinner and called it a night. We had to pack up and get ready for the next morning when we were going to take trains alllll day up to Rouen.
