Today we spent laying on the beach almost all day. Also got sunburnt a little bit and fell asleep on the beach. But first we tried to find a luggage storage. Which we couldn't. The lady at the tourist information said it is illegal here. Whatever. Then we bought lunch from a grocery store. There was no supermarket in town cos it was tiny and beachy and full of tourists. There was no single cloud in the sky and at 8 o'clock in the morning the beach was beautiful and warm enough to lie down in swimmers and read. At 11 we went to find a shady place to have lunch at. Then we had a look at the church. It was so exhausting carrying the backpacks everywhere! Unfortunately the church was closed but it was ... read more

The second day in Paris we started late à la France. Got up at 9:30, had a shower and brekkie and left just before 11. We went straight to Arc de trioph. The queue wasn't too bad. Arc de Triomph is way taller than I did remember it. It's very pretty. The view is great aswell. But probably the pictures I took say more than 1000 words. The next stop was Eiffel Tower. There the queues were heaps longer. To walk up the stairs (with the back pack -.-) we queued up for about 2 hours. Even on the 2nd platform we had to queue for the elevator up top. Up there it was amazing though. We had Champagne in weird cone cups for 10 euro each o.O and it was all cliché and that. The ... read more

Bienvenue a Paris! Today was a busy day in Paris. After a noisy night at Hotel Clarisse (kids firing fireworks till 1 am) and putting away our stuff in lockers, we went to have lunch in Luxemburg park. It was a really sunny day and the park was nice and green. Then we went to Notre Dame. It was pretty warm outside and the fact that it was on an island was romantic. But on the inside it wasn't as impressive but still beautiful. I also broke my sunnies as I went to bend over in order to not be in a person's photo. I stepped on them :(. After Notre Dame we went to see Sainte Chapelle, which is close to Notre Dame and right next to the Court of Justice so we had to ... read more

I hate City Night Lines because the chairs are gay to sleep in. Strasbourg is pretty though. It was hot and sunny for most of the day but then it got really humid and started raining a bit. First we had breakfast in town - chocolate croissant and espresso. Then we walked towards city center crossing nice canals. The houses are a mixture of German and French, lots had the pattern like the ones in Nürnberg had. Notre-Dame of Strasbourg is a ridiculously massive church but its beautiful. Also, we wentinside and walked around it. The palace or chateau, which is very close to the church, does not look impressive at all after seeing the church even though it is an alright building. Then we went on the boat trip through Strasbourg. It took 70 minutes ... read more

Today it rained all day till about 5 o'clock pm. But Sam and I just put our ponchos on and went sightseeing anyway. We walked through Vondelpark, which was very close to our hostel. It is a pretty park. Then we just wandered through the little roads. Coffee-Shops everywhere! Even though it was raining, the city looked very pretty. Even the canals with the boats in them. There was a 'Down Under' Cinema, that was showing 'Rabbit Proof Fence'. Interestingly enough, there was the Kiwi flag and sheep ad kiwi stickers o.O. We spotted a flower marked that we had a look at. In the same street there were lots of souvenier and pot shops. There was a cheese-shop that sold huge cheese bits. We also looked at a church that had two towers. There was ... read more

When we got up today we went shopping first. Food is so expensive here! Then we grabbed our stuff from the hostel and locked it at the train station. Our first sight was City Hall of Stockholm today. City Hall is massive. It is a red building right next to the river. Very windy there but beautiful. Stockholm reminds me of Venice. But orange. There was weird statues of naked people everywhere. It was spitting but we didn't get too wet at all. We then crossed the bridge to Gamla Stan - the old city. Saw an abbey on the way. First we went to Riddar Holmen which is one part of the island. There was a pretty red-brown church. Then on our way to central old town we saw more pretty buildings, most of which ... read more

All we did was sit on the train today. We stayed at Meininger hsotel last night in a 6 bed mixed dorm with an ensuite bathroom. It was very spacy except for the shower and clean. It was also close to the train station, except not the central one so we caught a local one there. In the morning our train to Copenhagen left early and we got to go on the ferry! Then we went on a Swedish crappy train for another five hours. The hostel here in Stockholm is about 3 minutes walk from central station. There was an Aussie receptionist and there is a citchen. It is small (the rooms) but very cute. A chinese person borrowed our cooker. He gave us lollies that tasted spicey mixed liquerish. Yuk! The showers and toilets ... read more

Arrived in Berlin at 7.20 or so. We ditched our maps and plans because we had a museum on there first which only opened at 10 and cost 8 €! So we walked to the parliament house after brekkie and locking our bags in. We walked around the back of it where there were left-over pieces of Berlin wall. Sam took parts of it with him. We followed where the wall used to be to the Berlin Zoo park where there was a memorial dedicated to the victims of the Stasi. It was the last one left in Berlin. Next was the Brandenburger Gate. It was early and surprisingly there were almost no tourists - except us. Following the street we - unknowingly - discovered the Holocaust Memorial. Sam jumped on it - afterwards he felt ... read more

Europe » Germany » Bavaria » Nuremberg (aka Nürnberg) July 7th 2009

One day down! We went to Nürnberg today and surprisingly all went very well. First thing we went to an Internet Café because we found a few flaws in our planning - like no address of booked hostel etc. Then we found lockers and chucked our massive backpacks (mine 14 kg, Sam's 18 kg) - yes we are mad Backpackers - in. We then made our way to the toy museum through the very cute old town of Nürnberg. Every street is called something with König or Kaiser! The toy museum was a bit overrated it was rather boring. From the museum we went up the hill to the pretty little castle - also very cute. It had red-white-red window shutters and on the wooden door we spotted the Austrian flag plus eagle! All of Nürnberg's ... read more
