SO I took a hostel quad out on my break today to go explore a bit. i I have heard that paleokastisa is really nice so I grabbed a randon cool guest from the hostel and convinced her to rent a quad and come with me! WE went straight there which took about 45min to an hour and took us though some really cute villages including the outskirts of pelekas and a few others I don't know the name of. There is a bit of a scary gypsy village along the way too. Anyway we went to an awesome little lookout point with a little bar just down the way. As we parked the quads and looked out over the clear blue turquoise it was simply breathtaking. Little islands jutting out with jagged rocks and lush ... read more

So for my friend Tegan's Birthday we got all the female staff from the pink palace (where we work) to go out for dinner (quite a feat since usually there is at least one of us on at a time.) We went to Pelakas, another small village near by, to have dinner at Kastalanis. It was amazing amazing amazing! We all ordered a bunch of starters to share. And holy wow my god, this food is DANK! I was unconvinced that I even liked greek food all that much until I ate this food. turns out i have just been eating at the wrong places. (sorry pink palace) We had Saganaki- which is a big chunk of fried cheese you can eat on the toasted bread that comes out. There was also had Melitzanes Fourno ( ... read more

Awe man, so I ended up getting sick here. It seems like a lot of people do. Definitely the staff, but also the guests. Enough so there have been a few names made to sum it up like: Corfu cough, and corflu. Great.... Well since I work everyday and they don't sell vitamin C in grocery stores here and the nearest pharmacy is in the next village I didn't really get to take care of myself like I would at home. I ended up getting so sick and a feeling like death. They ended up sending me home early from work 2 days in a row. It came to the point that I decided to go to the Doctor. Luckily for me the doctor visit is free for staff members so I went down there, she ... read more

So I have been working at the pink palace for about a week and a half now. It is great. I have pretty long hours and it's super crazy in the morning, and boring as hell in the afternoon. But overall I am having a blast! I have made friends from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, America, Canada, Mexico, the UK, Ireland, France, Spain and Portugal. I work 9-6, but after work I go to the pool, the beach, relax and read a book, then at night I go out with my fellow hostel workers, and guests of the hostel. Every Saturday night it Toga Party night with Greek dancing show, fire show, ouzo circle, plate smashing. We all dress up in nice pink togas too! Wednesday was cross-dressing party- so the boys and girls swap ... read more

Europe » Greece » Ionian Islands » Corfu August 8th 2010

I left Barcelona. It was really hard to actually go. I kept putting it off minute by minute. I said goodbye to my new friends and headed for the train station. Ugh Spanish trains are such a pain! I finally figured out that I can take a train from Barcelona to a little town in france to catch another train, but I only had a 10 minute transfer time and my train was 20 minutes late so I missed that connection and had to wait 2 hours. Then took another train to monte carlo, then another to marseille slept in the train station for 4 hours then took another train to nice, then another train to Genova then another train to volgera where I had to wait 7 hours for the night train. When I got ... read more

Europe » Spain » Catalonia » Barcelona August 4th 2010

So I have just spent most of my time in Barcelona laying on the beach, perfecting my tan, going to HUGE disco clubs, and meeting tons of new friends! I was only supposed to stay in Barcelona for 4 nights and ended up staying 8! Once I switched to the Sant Jordi hostel I met some great people and had such a good time! I met a couple more Irish girls Claire and Lorena, a really cool girl from Slovenia, and a few guys from Canada and Dubai. I couldn't decide what I was doing and the guys invited me to go to Ibiza with them. Ibiza is a party island famous for having clubs with famous DJ's and I really wanted to go but it is SOOOOO expensive there. Like 40-60 Euros just to get ... read more

Europe » Spain » Catalonia » Barcelona July 27th 2010

After 36 hours on the train I finally arrived in Barcelona! It was pretty late so I didn't see anything my first night. But I met a girl from Barcelona on the train and she kept telling me that in Barcelona I really have to watch my bag, which I had heard some horrible stories about pickpockets in Barcelona, so I am well warned. But then I got to the metro station and they warn you in 3 or 4 different languages " be aware pickpockets are looking for anyway to distract you so they can steal your belongings." And then sometimes they have little tv screens in the metro with cartoon depiction of a pickpocketing. So I am thinking it must be pretty bad. But so far so good. I have been keeping a ... read more

Europe » Austria » Vienna » Vienna July 19th 2010

Vienna was totally different for me. I had a hard time figuring out how to get to my hostel but luckily I saw some backpackers and asked them if they were going to the same place and they were. I'm sure I would have found it eventually, but it was nice to be able to follow someone who knew where they were going. I didnt have a reservation so I just showed up and hoped for the best. Not the smartest idea when you are staying at a very popular hostel. I was told there was no availablity but that I could use the internet to find another. So once I found one I went up to the desk to ask if I could leave a message for my friends(the irish girls and the aussie ... read more

Europe » Czech Republic » Prague July 19th 2010

Prague is a beautiful city. It has fast become my second favorite city in Europe (Rome being the first of course). I got into Prague in the afternoon and made my way to the hostel. I keep getting the best hostels! This hostel also had a garden area, and a big flat screen in the lounge where travelers can chill and watch movies. I couldn't get a hold of Marie and Dee Dee (my Irish girls) so I just hung out at the hostel and met some cool people. Prague is known for it's nightlife so I was eager to check it out. The hostel has a cool little cave of a bar downstairs so i went to have a Czech beer and meet some people. Once the hostel bar closes one of the employees ... read more

Europe » Czech Republic » Prague July 15th 2010

Sorry Zurich you have just been bumped from my second favorite city to my third. PRAGUE! you are amazing! My first night in Prague and I got all settled in at an awesome hostel one. Time seems to fly here. The hostel had a cool little basement bar where I met some cool people. After that closed we all set out to check out some clubs. It was cool to see Prague for the first time at night. My second day in Prague I met my Irtish girls Marie and Dee Dee down on the Old Town Square. We went for some food and walked across the Charles bridge and up to a cool park to relax. The park was pretty steep but there was a chill little beer garden at the top. That night i ... read more
