Haul out time and a warm up
Not sands dunes, just lack of rain.

We didn’t do much in Murchison as it kept raining. The town is rather small and quiet but is a mecca for white water rafting and kayaking. The surrounding countryside is quite beautiful. The nearby Buller Gorge is another adrenaline spot with jet boats and zip lines as well as the far gentler pursuit of panning for gold in the Buller River and a few other nearby locations. We needed to head for Christchurch again as Kevin has gone and opened an account on Trade Me, (Nzs version of eBay) and bought 2 push bikes!! We did a little detour up [View Full Entry]

Well, what can I say. Now we have settled in a place called Hamner Springs for 5 nights, this is to allow the poor van to recover after a near non stop 4,000 km +. I also get and oportunity to punish my Evil Liver with some local brew stuff. We have had to use the fridge on the site as ours is full, Wendy insisted on putting food in it. We have Bucks Fizz for breakfast, (not sure how it won Eurovision though), and smoked salmon. Our lovely neighbours, Mel and Isabella, very kindly offered us Christmas dinner at thier [View Full Entry]

Most of us carried on with this trek, and we still had the guide Neil, (great peruvian name), with us. We flew down into Puerto Maldonado deep in the Amazon jungle. From the airport we were transfered by small coach to a motorised canoe for a one and half hour boat ride, scarey. The coach trip was fine, we slid a few times and had to get out of the [View Full Entry]

A tower too tall.......for me anyway

After the deep dark scarey jungle, Kevin heads towards the bright lights of Hollywood to meet the girl of the moment after a brief break from her................ahhhhhhhhhh. I rejoined with Wendy and we spent 2 nights on board the Queen Mary, which is smashing, well worth the visit and very cheap. We then stayed in our first ever hostel, sharing room space with upto 4 other people, no problem. It was Haloween during our stay just off Sunset and there was plenty of partying going down, and many varied costumes to be shown off. Unfortunately someone did'nt go home that night, [View Full Entry]
