Please revisit the last entry as I've added more photos (-: Costa Rica - Panama Walked across a rickety old bridge into Panama….very unceremonial! Took a taxi van to the water taxi dock, passing many banana packing factories. About an hour to Bocas Del Toro on Isla Colon …. Lovely place. Hot and sticky but seem to be fewer mossies. Took a boat trip with an indigenous guy (called Martine) to neighbouring island hotspots: Dolphin lagoon, Coral Key, Zapatilla Island and Red Frog Beach. We saw a few dolphins (no swimming as there are jellyfish and, they want to protect the [View Full Entry]

Last day in Gautemala… went up the Pacaya volcano. Amazing… we surfed, scrambled and fell over lava fields and rocks, We got ridiculously close to flowing lava.… my feet got hot, the soles of my trainers went sticky! We stayed till it got dark, it was somewhat dangerous, but a great experience. Just over the border to Copan, Honduras. Small colonial town, not as nice as Antigua. The people are quite different, very western…. No traditional dress at all. Mayan ruins also quite different from others we’ve seen. No tall pyramids but more carvings and statues [View Full Entry]

Last day in Mexico Bumpy boat ride, for over an hour in a crappy boat. One of the outboards broke down, there were cockroaches onboard… not very inspiring, but it was worth it in the end…… I got to swim alongside a whale shark for a few hundred yards. He went real slow, I could see little fish riding on his fins and swimming in and out of his mouth… I got the whole ride all to my self….fantastic! Rural Mexican living conditions looks very poor, one room huts…. but the Spanish colonial towns are delightful. We have now seen a [View Full Entry]

in the middle of Mexico City
This the 2 weeks in Mexico...... photos to follow 1st Aug Mexico City Tour of Teotihuacan, an ancient civilisation from 150 BC - 650 AD. At the tourist shop we were shown how the Mexicans use the Maguey (agave) cactus. At 12 years old, they cut out the centre stem. This is used I several ways. A sweet milk is drunk from it, the needle sharp tip is cut off carefully with some fibres still attached, this is used for sewing. They use geranium flowers to dye the fibres. He stem also provides strips of plastic like paper which can be [View Full Entry]

We are now in Mexico but have sorted some stuff to update our USA trip! (-: July 7th Jackson Hole, Wyoming White water rafting on the Snake River. Both of us got thrown off, but what a laugh. This is a ski resort and it was strange for me to be there in summer. 8th Drove 300 miles to Vernal, Utah. Mile after mile of desert, very much like Almeria . 9th 250 miles to Moab, Utah. Mormon country…. Very strange rules about drinking….we went in a bar, sat at the bar and ordered a beer. Bar tender said we had [View Full Entry]

30th July. Arrived Mexico City late afternoon City of a million taxis, green VW Beetles. Huge, huge and very fast and busy. Very little English is spoken. Hotel Mallorca is near a park (Monument of Maya or something) which is a shanty town of tents and tarps. Witnessed a nude dancing demo there. Was told by the only person we found to speak English that the lefty political party hire these people to demonstrate about anything and everything. Bit knackered, not used to the altitude yet. Hotel had no maps, so a bit of a wasted first day really. Day 2 [View Full Entry]
