elliots Hi Ray
Certainly cheaper here, although sometimes you're first thought is, "That's Expensive, 130,000 dong for dinner, and drinks for two" then you remember that it's only 4 pounds.
Suddenly Elliots is just so lacking I'm gonna have to print everything out and take it along to Elliots next week when Emm and I head along for our bar meal. And here were we thinking that chile con carne for £4 a throw (not forgetting the house wine @ £1.50) was excellent value. We're either gonna have to persuade them to drop their prices drastically or change currency to the dong.
Mind you, it may be more expensive in there, but the dance floor sure is a lot safer (and cheaper by the sounds of it) !!
Can't wait for the next installment. I'm dying to hear what happens on Christmas Day.

Quite Hols Hi Carol,
Eileen says, I've to cut down on the beers, cos I'll end up with a beer belly, so only soda water, and maybe vodka. Take Care. John
Really Jealous Hi Gordon,
Great to hear from you, It's fab not having to do the daily stuff we do back home, even send our dirty washing to the laundry, It'll be a shock to the system when we return. Glad your'e enjoying the photos, will try to keep them coming. Cheers, John

vietnam Hi John and Eileen! We've never met but my dad (Billy Hotchkiss) has been forwarding all your blogs because I went to Vietnam and Cambodia 3 years ago. It's been amazing hearing about your experiences and seeing all your lovely pictures!I have some of the best memories of my life from that time so it's been great being able to relate. I remember Hanoi became cold almost overnight around late November so you may need jumpers there too.If you're looking for some great places to eat once you get there, Highway 4 and the Tamarind Cafe- as well as the aptly named Highland Coffee-are recommended!Oh I'd better stop now or I'll get carried away!have a wonderful time xx
Cheryl The strangest thing was seeing all the locals with wooly hats. there is no danger of us cycling too fast. The golf can wait, this trip is much better. send me a photo, miss u xxxxxxxxxxxxx
hello the views there are beautiful, must be starange thats its a bit cold. certainly not as cold as it is here though!!!!! ha ha, i cant believe you were on one of those bikes, i think they look dangerous, what if somebody cycles too fast? will that not cause a smash?
golf looks good? you must have been dying for a round! xxxxxxxxxxx
Living history......... That's what you've summarised so well. Catastrophic events that have played out in the recent past, still live in the memory of the locals, have influenced the present. It must have been great to experience all of that before it either disappears or loses its meaning. That must have been very special. Who knows what you'll discover next ??

hairy spiders oooh i had one of those spiders very close to my mouth, i firmly believe in trying everything once! but once i noticed the hairs still on the legs i just couldn't do it. much to rachael's disapointment!
Very Jealous! Hi John and Eileen! Its Lindsay, Cheryls friend here. Just been having a wee look at your blog and its so nice to see all the places I went to. Starting to wish I had kept a similar journal, theres so many things I have forgotten about already!
Hope you carry on having a great trip and careful crossing the road in Vietnam!

So what's wrong with movie watching tourists ? So the only culture that some of the tourists had been exposed to was watching a movie. So what of they were disappointed that they couldn't find THAT tree. I mean, look what's happened to the Roslyn Chapel since the book came out. How many extra visitors turn up there, copy of the Da Vinci Code in hand, ready to dig the place up to find the holy grail. Of coujrse I've read the book myslef, understand all the clues ~ so when you and Eileen get back we'll go for it !!
Looks like that you're having fun despite everything. I remember the chaos well myself ~ a sea of humanity everywhere, and everybody fighting for their share of your pension. Just show the Tuk Tuk drivers your senior citizens bus pass to see if you can get a concessionary fare.
Enjoy,
RR
