Samir's article. Samir here, alive and dry (and Im only saying that because there was an earthquake only 300 miles away from Tokyo, which brought up a tsunami warning) and finally in TOKYO!!! We've left the persisting sales people of India, and since most of our conversations went like this: "You want henna? Ok I give you henna." "No, I dont want henna." "Yes, you want henna. I give you henna." "No, I don't want henna." "How about baby? Baby like henna?" "No, baby doesn't like henna." "Yes, baby like henna. Baby want henna." "No baby DOESN'T want henna!" [and [View Full Entry]

You Can't Go To India Without Seeing It
Funny, I thought it would be bigger.
Samir's article. For those of you wondering "where are 'em ignorant Bhimjis?" the answer is "read the title". A few centuries after the Jurrasic period, we left Bikaner and drove to Jaipur. I can't remember what the drive was like, and be glad I don't. I've also been sworn to secrecy by the DBP (department of boredom prevention). In Jaipur however, we visited city palaces, medieval astronomy time telling places and saw three snake charmers who had a cobra that kept escaping (it moved in the general direction of Dad). The palace had lots of guards who wanted their pictures [View Full Entry]

The Amazing Taj Mahal
One of the million pictures we took of the Taj Mahal
Jamil. Hi it's Jamil. We are in Delhi but I'm going to write about Agra because there is the moment you have (I think) all been waiting for, the Taj Mahal. We went there a few days back and the second I walked in it looked amazing. Well I can say the inside was not very nice because everyone was trying to hear their echo so we left that part right away. By the way we took about one thousand pictures so it will be hard to pick the picture that I'm going to put on. It took 20,000 people [View Full Entry]

The Taj at Sunset
The Taj at Sunset
The ending note to our visit to the Taj Mahal!
Hi everyone! Well after our trip around Rajashtan, took the car to Agra (though we weren't planning to travel there by car), it's our last stop. Yep, Agra, the home of the famous Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world. Naturally, we visited the Taj on our first day in Agra and of course spent the whole day there. I know everyone says the Taj is overrated but truthfully, from the words of an experienced traveller (ahem, me), it's not really. In fact it's beautiful! We have so many pictures of it, so I tried to pick [View Full Entry]

This is the camel that I told you about but it isn't as good as it could have been if he had helped me.
Jamil. hi uh happy St. Patricks day!!!!! everybody. We are in Rajasthan and the city Bikaner which is the same as every place in India (open sewage smells bad ). I'll name you all the different smells 1. morning-cowie poo smell 2. afternoon-dirt mixed in water 3. night-people peeing on the walls 4. all day-camel farts These are two of my favourite things in Rajasthan. First we went to Udaipur and in Udaipur me, Samir and Alia did an art class and I did a camel and that was fun. First the teacher drew a line in the middle of the [View Full Entry]

Samir's article. Happy St. Patrick's day!!!!!!!!! (As I'm sure many have mentioned) Yesterday, we left Jaisalmer and drove until we reached Bikaner where we found a hotel with a pool that was suprisingly cheaper than our last room. Today we went to a temple that would make Pittsburg seem ratless. That's right, it was the rat temple. And by hearing its name I bet you guessed what it was full of. Yup, lots and lots of elephants. Elephant sized rats!!!!! However, the locals worship these walking flea bags (no offense to those who own, are related to or are a rat) [View Full Entry]

Hi, it's Beth. It's true what they say, just when you think you know what India is like, you move on to a new state and start all over again. We took an airplane this time, to Udaipur, Rajasthan. A 75 minute ride as opposed to 20 hours by train-but the real reason we did it was there were no train tickets and we would have had to wait 4 days (or go 2nd class non AC and none of us could bear that). But it is sort of a shock to fly because you leave Mumbai and arrive so [View Full Entry]

Okay, we obviously didn't realize that renting a car has it's bad times. So, we rented another car (with a driver this time) to take us around Rajastan, the land of kings, palaces, forts and open sewage. Smelly, yes, but undoubtably beautiful, and like always we manage! We started in Udaiper Um...sorry Udaipur, where we stayed for about three days. We visited a castle on our first day. Not much to say about it, just that we stayed there all day walking around and looking at the Lake Palace, a structure so admirable that the James Bond movie "Octopussy" was [View Full Entry]

Samir's article. We last left our um... "heroes" as they began a 6 day drive across the Rajasthani desert. Before beginning another day of driving, we went to see a fort perched on the top of a mountain. The fort was pretty important, as no elephant or battering ram had ever broken down it's gate. Or so the audio tour cassette said. There were also a lot of cannons and a museum displaying a lot of swords, sets of armour and scissor-like daggers. When we finnaly left the fort, Mom decided she wanted to go to a palace nearby, so it [View Full Entry]

Samir's article. Back in Bombay, we finally went to the Elephanta Caves. First we took a 1 hour boat to the island, then a 5 miniute mini train to the stairs, and then a 10 miniute walk up the steps. When we got there, we realized it was worth the time. The Elephanta Caves are three caves carved out of the mountain, and there are giant statues of gods and carvings that tell stories. There were more monkeys and stray dogs there than anywhere else that I've been to (not including the SPCA shelter.) The caves were ancient, but probably not [View Full Entry]
