From Hanau, Germany, we drove south towards Nurnberg, on Autobahn 3. Then towards Munchen on Autobahn 9. We then look for signs towards Innsbruck, Austria. Then to the Italien border of Brenner. And then to Vicenza where an army barracks called Caserma Ederle is located. This is where we camped inside this small post. From here, Venice is only 25 miles. After Venice, we drove to another small army post called Camp Darby by Livorno. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is just nearby, Lucca and San Gimignano are short drives. Florence is another day trip. We left early morning and drove to Rome that took us about 5 hours. Another must for travelers is the Colloseum. From Rome is Naples which is about two hours. We camped at a military recreational area called Carney Park. We ... read more

After a six month deployment to Kosovo, I was ready to take a well deserved vacation. So In June of 2001, my family and I headed for Greece. I always wanted to visit Athens, specifically the Parthenon. I think this monumental ruins of ancient Greece is a must for travelers. It should be in one of the top ten must visit in your list. Together with the Pyramids of Giza, Macchu Picchu and the Great Wall of China. ... read more

From Colorado Springs, my wife and I took around 6 and a half hours to get to the entrance gate of Arches National Park. We left around 8:00 am and at around 2:15 pm we were paying our park entrance fees. I wanted to get to the Visitor Center so I can get a reservation for a ranger guided tour of the Fiery Furnace. You can not do this online. Also, I wanted to get to see Delicate Arch at sunset. They say this is the best time of the day to enjoy this natural wonder. So we got our park tickets and headed for Moab to check into our motel about five miles from the park entrance. No problem. We changed into our hiking gear because the brochure said that it's moderate to strenous 3 ... read more

I left Colorado Springs on the 8th of January 2008 and arrived in Manila at 4:30pm on the 10th of January. The first of three plane changes was delayed from the get go. There were about 12 flights departing Colorado Springs. My flight to Los Angeles was the only one that had a blinking light at the monitor saying "delayed." After two hours the plane departed and arrived at Los Angeles. Of course my connecting flight boards in 30 minutes. I had to run to the International Terminal. If I waited for the terminal bus it would take longer. I finally get to the Cathay Pacific counter to get a boarding pass. And as usual there was a long line. I'm definitely going to miss this flight. No sweat, I skip the line went straight ... read more

June 23rd 2005

We have been blessed to have survived and enjoyed our marriage since 1987. In June 2005, we had an opportunity to have an anniversary in a tropical island. Oahu Hawaii. Excellent. I told my wife we better enjoy traveling while we can still walk. While we still have our health. Thank you Lord for giving us this fantastic adventure. Five days in Oahu. Not a long time but we did what we can. After getting our luggage, we proceeded to get our rental van. Got a map of the island. Proceeded to our hotel at Waikiki. No problem. The flight was okay from Colorado Springs. Stop over in Las Vegas. Then Hawaii. No lost luggage. Nice clean rental van. Got to the hotel around 8:00 pm. We can still feel the warm breeze. Awesome weather. ... read more

January 22nd 2003

I was stationed in Germany three times. Once when I was single from 1983 to 1984 at Schwienfurt. The second time in Wiesbaden with my brand new family from 1990 to 1993. And the last time was from 1996 to 2003 at a small town of Hanau, about 15 miles south of Frankfurt. Fleigerhorst Kaserne used to be a German Air force base during the second World War. It survived the war because the Allies could not pinpoint the air base from the sky and therefore could not bomb it. The secret was water. The Germans would pump about two inches of water into the airfield when an attack is imminent. From the sky it appears to be a lake. Germany has a lot of history, castles medieval fest and beerfest. On weekends we would drive ... read more
